My home row keys (and only those 8) do not work.

I have a Dell E1505 Laptop. Suddenly, my home row keys (and only those 8) do not work. I cannot even log in is administrator because my password contains letters located in the home row. Has this problem been seen before? Is there a simple solution, or will I just need to replace the keyboard?

Thanks in advance.

Will M.

HI Will, sounds like the keyboard is shorting out on you. Get the keyboard replaced but before you do, take the keyboard out and then reseat the keyboard back into its place onto the motherboard just to be sure the keyboard is seated properly.

Unfortunately, this is most likely a bad keyboard and the keyboard will need to be replaced. In the meantime, you can use a USB keyboard in its place.

To enable or disable the touch pad, press the key on the function key row on the keyboard. It is next to the F12 Key.

Which key are they talking about when they say hit the del key

DEL is Delete. Usually found in a cluster with Insert, Home, End, Page Up and Page Down. With the Dell 6400 E1505, these are on the upper right hand side of the keyboard. (The "half" with the two rows of keys instead of 1 row of function keys.)

I hope this helps.

Dell Inspiron E1505 won't recognize new battery

It won't charge or work correctly if it's not the correct one and of the right voltage etc.I don't know how the battery even went in if it's not the Dell specified battery. If it went in and looked to fit maybe the battery itself is bad but its hard to say.

How do i activate and lock my Fn keys

Unlike previous models, The 1545 has no imbedded Numeric Keypad, so there is no NUMLOCK option.
For numerics, you will have to use the numbers above the QWERTY row.
SCROLL LOCK was also eliminated from the 1545 keyboard (Legacy item, seldom used)
If you need a numeric keypad and/or Scroll Lock, then an external keyboard may be an option.
