No,buy a indoor digital antena have a wire already just plug the wire into the Ant. hole screw it in.Go into the tv menu goto SETUP.Go down to Ch.enter pick AIR enter again for scanning for free air broadcasting channels, after all done scanning. That it tv now have all free air broadcasting channels.
The cable company is always encouraging customers to rent cable boxes. It is hard to tell if a HDTV has a Quadrature Amplitude Modulation feature unless you ask at the time of purchase. Now the only thing to find out is to have it scan. Your TV has 2 RF inputs. You can choose one to hook up directly from cable source. Make sure to set up the right one for the input that you connect then let it scan. You will see something like channel 7, channel 7.1.... After that you have to make notes of what number is for which channel since it doesn't list out as what you have with a cable box. That is the inconvenience to watch without a cable box, but if you know what channel already then you can go straight to it without searching from remote.
I find out that cable box renting is a rip off. Another option is buy a new TiVo HD 20GB is selling now for 249.99 at Best to replace cable box legally and have all features just like cable box plus many more. However you have to pay TIVO service in order to record program. It still about the cost, but at least you know there is an option. Hope this can help.
You will need to go to the Video Menu, change the tuning band option from Air to Cable, I do not have the manual so I cant give you the exact path to the option but if you search through the menus you should be able to find it.

Your TV has a built in tuner but NOT a built in antenna. Depending on where you live (distance from broadcasters) you will need to add anywhere from rabbit ears (with the UHF loop) to an antenna on the roof or mast.
If your home already has an antenna installed, connect the coaxial cable to the back of your TV. Then go to "Set-up" and scan for DIGITAL channels. If you are trying rabbit ears, do the same.
If the antenna connector is missing it probably has been broken off. I suggest that you use a HDTV cable box and connect with component connectors. Green, Blue, Red video + red & white audio.
If you are on off the air antenna, the cable box can be gotten from eBay.
If you have satellite, hook up either video or HDTV connections.
Hope this helps.
