Fire Magic 3590A not cooling. Thermostat adjustment has not worked. Compressor warm to the touch.

Exact same thing for me, I replaced the relay switch in the back, part number P6R8MC and it's fixed.

Vinotemp not staying cool, it's set at 54 degrees, but it's at 82 degrees

Step 1:

It's most likely the PTC (Positive Temperature Compensated) start relay that turns the compressor on and off. The manufacturer has replaced part number P6R8MC with part number 6R8MG for this PTC start relay. Order part number 6R8MG, it cost less than $20.

First, unplug the wine cooler and take off the back panel. The back panel is held into place with several philips head screws.

Step 2:

Locate the compressor. You'll find the compressor in the bottom left corner of the VT-60 as viewed from the back. You will see copper tubes coming out of the compressor. These tubes carry the compressed refrigerant to the evaporator assembly. Be careful not to crimp or damage the copper tubing.

Step 3:

Find the black plastic cover to the left of the compressor. This cover is held into place with one philips head screw. Remove the screw and remove the cover to find the PTC start relay.

Step 4:

The replay is connected to the compressor by a single blade connector and two pins which protrude from the compressor. Remove the blade connector and pull the PTC relay to the left, sliding it off the pins attached to the compressor.

Step 5:

Slide the relay on the connector pins, reattach the blade connector, reattach the black pastic cover over the relay, reattach the back panel onto the VT-60 and you're done.

My 3.6 cuft Magic Chef frig quit over a weekend. When I plug it in, the compressor is not running and is getting very warm. Is there any quick/inexpensive fix?

there's a small compressor starter that can be replaced. i had similar problem and it seemed to work. the bad starter could be a result of an underlying compressor problem though. for $40 i took a chance and all seems fine so far. the starter simply plugs in and is found under the electrical cover on the compressor. my pt# was P6R8MC, and the starter was black in color. be sure your unplugged first.

MY FRIDGE STOP WORKING AND THE COMPERSSOR IS VERY HOT. What can be wrong with it it is only 2 years old

Usually when a compresso that is not that old gets hot the problem is with one of 3 components

1. The PTC Relay PN P6R8MC
http://www.repairclinic.com/SSPartDetail.aspx?s=t-P6R8MC-%3d%3di1206838&PartID=1206838

2. Thermal overload PN 265RFBYY
one of many sources: http://www.repairclinic.com/SSPartDetail.aspx?s=t-265RFBYY-%3d%3di1206539&PartID=1206539
3. Loose wiring or terminals
4. Worst case the compressor itself (5 Year carry in warranty!)

Items 1 and 2 above should be changed at the same time. Usually when one fails it causes the 2nd one to fail.

Before you go ordering parts.. just unplug the unit for about 45 minutes. Sometimes if there is a brief power outtage (less than 3 mins) the unit stops and the coolant has not equalized. The compressor keeps trying to start keeping the pressure up but yet the compressor does not start normally. The compressor gets hot and the thermal overload causes the unit to cycle on about every 5 minutes. Over an extended time of cycling the thermal overload will fail. After 45 minutes plug the unit in and see if it starts

If you change the PTC Relay you must change the KliXon thermal overload at the same time. Most LOCAL Appliance part supply stores will have both of these parts in stock. Use the part numbers above and walk in with the parts in hand.

IF you decide to change them your self FIRST make yourself a simple wiring diagram
I.e Orange to terminal ___
Blue to terminal ____

Then remove the parts by opening the plastic cover on the side of the compressor and then pull off the PTC and Thermal overload HORIZONTALLY. Obtain the replacement parts and reintall after inspecting the compressor terminals. Clean as necessary by scraping with a knife blade.

If after changing these two parts the compressor still does not start you may very well have a warranty carry in service compressor change. I seriously doubt that the compressor has failed but it does rarely happen.

Vinotemp 24 - keep hearing ticking sound

It's the overload protector thats gone bad. Remove the plastic cover on the side of the compressor( LG model NS30LACG). The OLP is the one on top. If you open it up you will find that it may have some burn marks from electrical arcing. The part number is on the side (P6R8MC). Do a Google search for it. It costs about 12 bucks.
