I am a swimwear designer and just got a juki ddl 8300n did I pick a good machine? How can I adjust the machine for a more stretchy stitch?! What number should my stitch dial be on to get a stretch?

Perhaps a manual would be helpful:

You should probably contact the manufacturer with questions. Hopefully, you did some thorough research before purchasing this machine. From the info I found, it appears to be a straight stitch only machine. I don't know anything about this machine, but I would be hesitant to purchase a straight stitch machine for sewing swimwear. Usually, swimwear needs a stretch stitch or zig-zag capability. Just my thoughts...

From the pattern selector (the bigger dial), select the zig-zag stitch. Then, using the stitch length dial (the smaller dial), adjust the stitch length. The closer your stitch length is to "0", the more dense will your zig-zag stitch be.

Hi, I have a Juki ddl 552 that does not have te stich setting nob. I am wondring how can I change my stich seting? please help.

Here is a threading diagram for this industrial machine
http://www.sewusa.com/Threading_Diagrams/Threading_Pages/Juki_Sewing_machine_threading/Juki_552_553_555_227_Threading_Diagram.htm

You can also buy a manual here
http://www.sewusa.com/Sewing_Machine_Manuals/Juki_Manuals/Juki_Industrial_Sewing_Machine_Manuals/227-552-553-555_Instruction_Manual.htm for this model.

I would have thought there would be some sort of screw or adjustment to control stitch length but I can't find an image for your model.
However this image might help, http://www.johnharbsew.com/images/threading/JUKI-DNU-241-TD.jpg, my Singer 20U, has a dial like this with numbers on that you adjust for length, is there something similar on the Juki?

Not problem-question

Different stitch lengths are used depending on what you're sewing. I would say 2.5 is the "normal", "average" stitch length for basic sewing. If there are certain types of fabric you're using that ravel or come apart easily, you would use a smaller stitch length, which means more stitches per inch. If you want to just baste fabric together without having a permanent seam, you woould use the highest number, to have the least amount of stitches per inch.
