Lifecam video works great - but no audio!

Hopefully someone will be able to shed some light on my audio problem. I successfully installed the software on my home PC (XP) and my daughter's (Vista - got the update from Microsoft). My father doesn't have a webcam but installed WLM on his PC. My sister installed a Logitech webcam on her laptop. In all cases, we can share video (except obviously my father but he can view us) but no one can get the audio to work so we wind up having to type our conversations.

The audio mike works fine when tested but the other party can't hear us. there must be something very basic that I'm missing.

Unrelated: On my XP machine I was able to access a "dashboard" and make a short video. On the VISTA machine, it's nowhere to be found. In fact I can't find any program related to the LifeCam VX-2000. Despite that, I can share my webcam with another party.

Could someone give me some guidance?

Me again with a new problem. I finally got the audio working on that webcam. I then bought an inexpensive GE model and it works fine on my laptop. When I hook it up to my XP desktop machine the video works great but neither party can get audio. I made sure everything was enabled and not muted. I tried to use sound recorder with no luck. I'll try to dig out an external Microphone and see if that fixes the problem but I'm not optimistic. Any thoughts?

Do a cam/mic test in the audio/video settings in the tools tab in yahoo/msn. Then you need to minimise the yahoo/msn screen and right click on the cam icon in the taskbar and check that the mic and cam are enabled and that it is set to allow other programes to take control of this device

January 3, 2010 To resolve no audio from Microsoft LifeCam VX-3000, I successfully used Control Panel to delete the 'old' software. Then, went to Microsoft site and downloaded 'new' Microsoft LifeCam software 3.0.215.0. This resolved the problem easily and quickly, plus the updated software looks better and has better features.

The best cure for feedback on the audio channel is to use an earpiece and mute the sound from the speakers .
otherwise adjust the microphone settings and move the mic away from the camera
