IF plays DVD's via the audio and video jacks on the set there is a option here--bypass the issue with a box (cable or sat or any kind that will pass the signal via the same connections you use for a DVD.
The blue screen suggests you have or may have a bad tuner in the set--cannot beat it get around it.
This can be caused by a main board failure or a t-con board failure. There is a fuse on the t-con that fails but it is not the standard looking fuse. It is an extremely small, surface mounted component fuse. You have to know what you're looking for to find it. It can be bypassed momentarily and if the picture comes back then the t-con is the problem for sure. You really ought to take it to a shop as this is not something that is easily diagnosed at home.
ES MUY POSIBLE QUE EL CABEZA L DE VIDEO SE ENCUENTRE
SUCIO LO IDEAL ES USAR UNA CINTA LIMPIACABEZALES O USAR UN SPRAY DE LIMPIEZA DE USO ELECTRONICO (DE LOS QUE NO DEJAN RESIDUOS OLEOSOS) ,APLICANDO PEQUEñOS CHORROS SOBRE LAS GAPS DEL CABEZAL ROTATORIO , ESPERAR ALGUNOS MINUTOS Y CARGAR EN LO POSIBLE OTRA
CINTA EN PLAYBACK ,TAMBIEN SE PODRIAN LIMPIAR LOS CABEZALES AVANZANDO Y RETROCEDIENDO RAPIDO UNA CINTA
already solved it. thanks. i couldn't see the xbox settings blade because of the blank screen so switched my component cable to the tv setting instead of the hdtv setting, then i could see the dashboard in non-hd and switched the resolution to 720p while simultaneously switching the component cable back to the hdtv setting. that worked.

As mentioned on the Jan12 e-mailed Panasonic - surprise, no response! However on Panasonic's web site drill down to firmware upgrades for DVD machines. There is an upgrade available for the E50P. Straight forward fix, download to computer, expand it and copy to a CD-R. Put CD-R into E50 and recorder will check and update firmware. I did this on the 13th and have recorded two commercial free movies and both have played back perfectly after finalization. Time will tell. Hope this helps. Golferdon
