Hi. I just configured a DLink DIR-300 wireless router on my laptop. During the installation, it required me to keep the ethernet cable connected between the router & the laptop. I finished the configuration . I checked that I could access my wireless internet through my other laptop. So thats also nota problem. The only problem is that the laptop on which I had installed the router does not detect the wireless network if I remove the ethernet cable between itself and the router. Only when the cable is connected can I connect to the Internet. What should I do ?

There are ways to configure router:
1. Is by using Installer using a CD came with it or
2. Access routers Graphical User Interface (GUI) through Internet browser. Just type in on the address bar the IP address of your router. For dlink it has a default IP of 192.168.1.0.

Note:
Before accessing router configuration make sure that the yellow cord (ethernet cable) is connected directly from the router to your computer.

reset your router again and run the wizard for the configuration.

For setup, you need an Ethernet cable connection to the router, WLAN needs to be configured first before you can use it to administrate the router.

The default user name is "admin" with empty password.
If you suspect the settings are not at factory defaults, press the reset button at the rear for 20 seconds with the router powered on.

you don't need to install a router on a PC. The wireless card or ethernet cable should talk to the router.

Connect the modem to the router via the ethernet cable. Connect the laptop to the router by means of another ethernet cable in one of the 4 spare sockets. Switch everything off. Turn everything back on one at a time, modem first, then router, then laptop. Allow each unit to fully power up before switching the next one on. Put the installation CD in the laptop and try again. If you are using the laptop wirelessly, make sure the wireless function is switched on!

i do not have wep option in my wireless settings

First you have to make sure that you connected it correctly. the cable coming out of the modem should be connected to the single port (Internet port) at the right when facing the back of the router.

All computers that are wired through it should be able to access the internet. if one of your computers cannot access the internet you may want to check the IP address that you are getting. (go to a command prompt and type ipconfig).

If you are connecting a wireless computer check the wireless security setting which you can find at the configuration (setup) page of the router. to access the configuration page check the owner's manual.

Hi, I am assuming that you can connect to your router's web based interface (192.168.0.1). On a PC LAN wired to the router, open a browser; Type "192.168.0.1"; Log-in username/admin and password/(blank); Go to Tools > Misc and the option to select the WAN speed (bottom); Lock the speed down on the WAN port of your router to 10Mbps (Some versions do not have this feature). Hope this works for you. If not pls post back with your modem brand/model. You may also want to log the IP settings (IP Add, Subnet Mask, Default Gateway, DNS Servers) of the PC that is directly connected to the modem when you can access the Internet when not using the router.
