System sometimes just will not play dvds. disc

You may have come close to what the issue is---Blu Ray for several design reasons is much more critical than DVD---seen a lot with this issue----either a dirty or a failing optical pickup in the unit---I know as when first started seeing it in our shop changed a few and since under warranty found the answer--optical unit was the problem---shortly after that they started just exchanging the cheaper units.

is the discs just spinning and then stopping when you put them in the drive?
there may be a chance that the lens might just needs cleaned. suggest a dvd lens cleaner but on the down side there is a strong possibility it may be a faulty lens. dvd players aren't built to last.
always clean the dvd player from dust and keep in an open space.

if it's a fat PS2 and
model SCPH 30001, SCPH 35001
(not including the models with an 'R' after the model #.

these models need the following to play DVDs:
- PS2 DVD remote with IR unit
- PS2 DVD disc player (sold with DVD remote w/ IR unit)
- PS2 memory card

you copied the DVD disc to the memory card. you used the memory card to play DVDs.

later models didn't need the memory card to play DVDs.

run ur pc in safe mode and insert dvd disc and then use this around 2min and then start ur window normally and ur dvd drive working 

get the free upgrade CD from BOSE and it will solve most of the problems when the program is loaded.

Sounds like either a dirty or weak laser/lens. Pls try cleaning with a CD disc cleaner or manually using cotton buds (if the eye is accessible).

Reset you player by doing the following:
With the player on, hooked properly to your television, and on the correct station:
Open the tray
Close the tray (with no DVD inserted)
Hold the stop button down for a full 5 seconds
The CyberHome screen should appear. You should be able to play your dvd's now.

First determine where the problem lies. This can be done by analyzing what is happening. Is the disc spinning. Is it spinning erratically? If the disc is not spinning, the spin motor is probably defective. But sometimes you can be fooled, if the laser does not detect information of the disc, it will not issue a start spin motor command. If you can get the unit to work with the door open by defeating the switches,(Do not under any circumstances look directly into the laser)If you see the laser then the spin motor is bad, In either case the unit is is probably cheaper to replace than to repair. Change your DVD player

1. An unplayable disc is inserted. 2. The Rating level is set, Cancel the Rating function or change the rating level. good luck!
