Kitchenaid dishwasher - water standing at end of cycle

Dishwasher cycles - appears to be normal, however water left standing in botttom of tub. Didn't completly drain. What's up with this?

My dishwasher always retains very dirty water you can see when removing the filter. It doesn't sound normal.
Washing quality is sometime good / sometime poor.
Model is : SE28A231II

    Yup!

The way the drain line was plumbed to drain was far than perfect.
    I corrected the problem but:

the water is still there (let say 2/3 cm from the bottom; see attached pic).

Furthermore what sounds very strange to me is how dirty it is!
    Any additional comment?
    Thanks

my siemens dishwasher doesnt drain all the water out. I have economy seven electricity so i put the dishwasher on when I go to bed. In the morning the motor is still running and it sounds as if the water is draining, but there is water in the bottom, as if it has got stuck in the cycle. The first couple of times I lifted the washer and plonked it down again and it carried on draining, but i would have to repeat this to keep the thing draining the water. Last time I did it smoke started coming out of the dishwasher, OOPS. Does anyone think it is fixable, or have I killed it?

Please check drain hose for a squees
Remove drain hose from garbage disposal (if you have one) and try to drain into a bucket. See the pressure and it helps to clean the garbage disposal pipe.

How much water are we talking about? If its say less than 2-3 cups, It may be the way it is plumbed to drain. The drain line is back washing a little after everything is finished.

  • Anonymous Dec 14, 2007

Well the dirt can be from many factors. How dirty your dishes are, the build up in the drain hose. also the disposal can backwash into it. that is why I asked how it was plumbed. there should be an air gap in-line and/or a check valve at the dishwasher connection.

Water standing in tub

If there is a lot of water sitting inside the applicance, it's possible that the high water float switch has been activated and is preventing the dishwasher from running. Open the door, remove the bottom rack, dip as much water out of the bottom as possible with a shallow ladle or even tupperware container. When that is accomplished, shut the door and try to run a drain cycle. If the unit won't start, you may have to remove more water. You don't have to have the rack in place to run the drain cycle.

Miele Dishwasher G841 - Water not draining after wash cycle

If you suspect the dish washer, try discharging the drain in a bucket. After the drain cycle check the wash tub. If water is still left, you have to clean the drain filter attached to the bottom. Refer user guide.

The final drain end of the dish washer where you discharge, the fixing junction has to be cleaned, incase it is clogged.

Slow fill of water is due to the strainer clogging. Strainer is located on the body of the machine where the inlet water hose is connected.

Water didn't drain, left in bottom of washer tub

I had similar problem and it ended up being a clog at the point where the drain hose meets the garbage disposal. I had to unhook the hose and clean out the food that had accumulated (horrible smell). You may have to stick a screwdriver into the garbage disposal hole where the hose fits and clean the food out there also. Then put the hose into a bucket and run a few cycles to ensure the hose is free.

Dishwasher drains but leaves behind about 1/2" of standing water

Water standing in the bottom of the tub is normal.
A small amount of clean water around the outlet on the tub bottom at the back of the tub keeps the water seal lubricated.

Whirlpool Dishwasher won't drain during normal cycle

As you say a clogged line or valve does not make sense.

Try running it without the heated drying and see if it empties or if the cancel button will work then.

The dishes should air dry quickly if you empty it and open the door.

It could be a defective thermostat allowing it to get too hot during the heat cycle

Standing water at end of cycle

It is normal for a small amount of water to remain after each loadof dishes is cleaned.

Is the water clear or cloudy?
Is there an odor?

How deep is the water? Less the two inches?

Post back with your findings here. OK?

GE 24in. dishwasher GSD5630D00WW

Bill, I see this all the time in GE, that valve under the back strainer is called the piston nut assy. If it's not seating you will have water left in the tub at the end of the cycle. Part #wd24x220, can get it for around 13.95, repairclinic.com. You replace it from the top, it unscrews....Catriver.
