I have the same problem with my tv. It keeps shutting off. The only thing my husband seemed to find is if he lowers the contrast it seems to stay on longer. I don't know but sure wish we could figure it out.

I'm having the same problem with the same model of TV. First problem was that the power cord had been chewed by a dog and I quickly fixed that. Upon powering on, I get a green light for a few seconds and during this time a rather high pitched hum then a "click" and the unit powers off. After repeated examination and reproduction of the problem there was a "pop" and a bright flash inside the unit (I was watching the electronics and I had the back off). The flash came from the right hand side of the unit as I was facing it from the back. It came from behind 2 large capacitors and, either on, or to the right of some sort of card that plugs into the main board. I'm thinking it may have been a fuse that blew, but I'm not yet sure.

I have a mitsubishi VS-5043....It shuts off after approximately a hour of watching, can it be repaired?

Hello,

Yes, it can be repaired. There is so much heat inside the unit that is why it shuts off. When the heat gets high, then a component gets melted inside the unit.

The component that is most likely to get bad is a capacitor. Once a capacitor gets bad or melted, it begins to malfunction, like tripping off frequently, and other kinds of problem. Run a check on the power board and the main board for any bad capacitor and replace it with a new one.

Take care and good luck

Mitsubishi VS-585R

Here's something that might also be useful. After you turn on the set, and get the regular red blinky lights, hold down the Device and Menu buttons together for about 5 seconds.
The Power light will start to flash in a two digit sequence.

For example, 3 flashes, then 7 flashes = 37.

Mitsubishi vs 5051 rear projection tv sound but no picture

No video but good audio Mitsubishi VS5051. Check R509 and R 519, 100 ohm resistors located on the main PCB near the flyback transformer. Also bad connections on any of the yokes and the vertical output IC will cause the same problem.
