For laptop: Toshiba Satellite A105: My battery won't charge/computer won't turn on when plugged in. No lights show when plugged in. Don't know if it's a problem with the chord or the computer. Don't want to buy a new power chord until I know.

Start by trying another power outlet.

The power adapter should have its own light. If it doesn't light up then the adaper is bad. Kensington.com sells very inexpensive universal power adapters. You might also find a good deal on eBay.

If the adapter lights up then it may be your battery. Notebook batteries are only good for 2-3 years. If you let them sit for a long time without a charge they may only last 1-2 years.

Vote for this solution if it helps.

Did these people even listen? if you aren't getting any lights on the computer when it's plugged in, either your motherboard or poweradapter is dead. Do try removing the battery and then plugging it in, but that probably won't help.
I don't know about yours, but my adapter for my x205 - sli doesn't have a power light, so maybe try to find one at a store that can be returned if it doesn't help.
For your computer, it looks like the connector that the adapter plugs into on the computer is not hard-wired into the mother board and can be replaced.
Unfortunately, if it is not the power supply, or connector, it is almost guaranteed to be the Mother Board. Replacements are usually much more expensive than the computer is worth for laptops. sorry :( This just happened to my laptop last night, which is why im trolling.

It's obviously that your toshiba satellite a105 battery is worn out. You need a new battery.
Battery is very weak to power off, so prepare a battery is necessary.
When choose a replacement Toshiba satellite a105 battery(original battery is too expensive for me), check the battery model carefully.

How to tell if a105-s4074 satellite battery is bad

If thelaptop battery is more than 3 - 4 years old then the battery could be worn out.Rechargeable batteries have a finite number of charge and discharge cycles andwill lose their charge capacity over time, i.e. won't charge to 100% andgradually the charge reduces until the battery won't charge up at all. OR Thebattery shows a 100% charge but when the adapter is disconnected the batterydrops off to zero capacity in a very short time. If the battery drops to anunacceptable charge level then the battery needs to be replaced.

I have a Toshiba Satellite A105-S2716 its about 3 years old and I have tried all extended life batteries but they don't charge.

Toshiba had issued a bulletin and a BIOS upgrade (version 2.0) to address the battery not charging/working issue (it's a bug in the system is what it is). Make sure that's done before contemplating any hardware changes or repairs.

Problem with laptop- no power

The battery needs to be taken out once in a while. It is possible to use the ac adapter and power cord without the battery to power your laptop. Please press on the power button for 10 seconds for your computer to turn on. Check if you can see any message on the screen.

Toshiba Satellite A105-S4064; can't get battery to charge

If you put strain on the jack (e.g. hang power adaptor from it whilst using or charging) then the socket on the mainboard can get hot due to poor contact and melt.

There is no way to fix this except to completely dismantle the laptop and fit a new socket - most likely a repair centre will charge you for a new mainboard.

Try another adaptor to see if that is the problem (broken wire in cord) - otherwise look closely at the socket in the notebook.
