Question about Honda 6370C - Parallel Power Kit For EU3000i

2 Answers

Honda EU3000is Generator is running poorly.

My 2 year Honda EU3000is generator is sputtering and surging especially under a load. I have replaced the spark plug and the air filter. I have emptied the gas tank and replaced with new fuel and a few ounces of carb cleaner. Initially I tried just draining the carb. bowl in the hopes of removing any bad gas or water. After all this made no difference to the performance, I removed the carb. and cleaned all parts with cleaner and compressed air even though there was no sign of any dirt or varnish. The generator still sputters and surges under a load. It runs a little better in the ECO throttle setting but on full throttle it sputters and can't even handle the microwave in our camper. Slightly pulling out on the choke makes no change to the problem, it gets worse ruling out starving for fuel. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Barry Jurgensen

if i put gas in air intake it runs fine for a sec. I think i need to rebuild carb.Is that fairly easy? I have rebuilt lawnmower carbs. Mainly for the diaphragm

Can anyone help me with the eco-trottle switch when I switch it on it seems to run the same idle whether I have it off or on, what could be causing it not to work, is it a bad switch or I am running 89 octane could that be the problem.

Thanks
Alex

Hi there .
If you still have the owner's manual check how to clean the spark arrester . The spark arrester (metal screen) is located on the muffler and get blocked with the time . To get to it you have to remove all rear end of the machine to get to the muffler. After you get to the muffler you will see that the muffler will separate in two pieces . Just remove the 3 screws holding the muffler on place and the spark arrester is inside the muffler . Simply clean it with a wire brush .
Hope this help.

My Honda EU3000 inverter has spark, turns over but wont run. I have taken the plug out, added fuel to the cylinder, it runs for a second then stalls. Looks like its not getting fuel.Something plugged?

if it has a metal tap under the tank, they have a habit of corroding internally and blocking the fuel flow
test by removing the hose to the tap and turning it on
if it is a slow trickle or drips ( anything but a full flow ) consider s new tap
check for corrosion at the needle and seat area of the float control

Can the rotor on a honda eu3000is generator cause a no spark to the plug

http://cdn.powerequipment.honda.com/pe/pdf/manuals/31ZT7601.pdf There isn't a rotor or distributor on this engine. The ignition module can go bad. The flywheel of the engine has a magnet embedded in it to trigger a spark from the midule.

Honda 3000is runs great on eco but hesitates and either stops the load source or stops running itself when under load.

Sounds like the throttle control motor is not adjusting the engine speed to compensate for the load. Does the generator rev up to full speed if you turn OFF eco with NO load?
Funny thing, I have one on my workbench that is doing pretty much the same thing. Runs on eco, revs up with eco off with no load, coughs, sputters and dies with a load in either mode. I will update with what I find when I figure it out in the next week or so. Have a new carb on order.

I swapped the carb and it made no difference. Still backfiring (rather dramatically) and won't stay running. I see on some other posts that Valve lash will cause this. It makes total sense as the exhaust valve gap actually tightens as the engine wears which would keep the exhaust valve slightly open when it ain't supposed to be allowing raw fuel to enter the muffler.
With this one I can believe it as it has a ton of hours on it and I know they have never been adjusted.
I will try to get a chance to do it over the weekend and update this post when I do.

Honda accord rough idle

Check fuel filter, plugs, air filter, if still rough and surging a carb service may be required, especially if it has sat for a period of time

Honda eu3000is generator surges

Inverter Generator Benefits
  • The EU3000 series generators are inverter generators. The generator features an alternator, which produced high-voltage, multi-phase AC power. This power is converted to DC power and then converted back to AC. This process is controlled by a microprocessor and is necessary to provide stable, consistent power capable of running equipment sensitive to power surges. This type of generator provides higher fuel efficiency and lower operational noise ratings in a lighter model than home and work generators produced by Honda.

EU3000i Handi Specifications
  • The Honda EU3000i Handi is a 3,000-watt inverter generator that features wheels, folding handle and a recessed convenience light. The engine is a Honda GX160, which features a 163-cc displacement. The AC output is 120 volts, with an average rating of 2,600 watts and a maximum production of 3,000 watts. There are three receptacles to include a 20A, 125-volt duplex and a 30A, 125-volt locking plug. The DC output is 12 volts and 100 watts. The EU3000i can hold 1.56 gallons of unleaded fuel, which will provide consumers with 3.6 hours of run time at 25 percent load for 7.7 hours.

Will not accelerate fast without popping and sputtering, but will accelerated slow just fine

you have a miss fire under load the most common cause is a bad spak plug wire, if you give it a good old tune up it should take care of the problem.

spark plugs, spark plug wires, distabutor cap and rotor, air filter, fuel filter, and PCV valve.....good luck

Honda EU3000is generator will not start with electric starter.

I'd say your battery in the generator is going bad or bad. They are very small and do not hold a charge for very long. The noise you heard was probably the starter shaft hitting the flywheel cogs. I doubt any harm was done as long as you did not repeatedly try to start it with the key. Why Honda put a battery in these is because they are intended for use in a campground setting, where they would be used on a daily basis and the battery would constantly charged. Whereas people like us buy them for emergencies only, they sit for long periods, and the battery goes flat, and the fuel clogs the carb and we get the surging issue. That's my 2 cents. When I brought mine home new, I Sta-bil'd the heck out of the gasoline, this past winter, on start-up, the unit surges. Of course the battery was flat.
