Could be the CD is damaged. The lens of the CD-ROM is bad or going bad. The fact that the CDROM blinks when you add a CD is because the driver is receiving power.

Why won't my Acer laptop play compact discs?

Most units are designed to "autoplay" audio CDs when they are inserted. When they fail to do so, it could be because the CD is dirty or scratched and was bot recognized, the media player that you are using to play the CD was not in a state that it could autoplay the CD, or there could be a problem with the Disk drive or PC itself. Whenever a CD fails to play upon insertion, go to the "My Computer" icon (win7 or below) and see if the CD/DVD drive shows a disk inserted. If so, clicking on the drive will often start the playback.

My acer aspire 5100 has stopped detecting cd / dvd drive. When i insert a CD the Orange light blinks instead of Green, it appears as if the drive is reading CD but nothing happens, also the CD Drive is not...

Try the following:
  • Use a CD Cleaner (Or try with a soft cloth with a spirit)
  • Worse case scenario, you will need to take it to repair shop to change leaser head.

My teac dvd/cd player wont play some cds

Probably a codec problem on the notebook. rather than a drive problem. Try a 3rd party media player such as Real Player or Quicktime

Again go to my computer, to find properties/hardware/device- highlight the drive, right click and refresh or scan for hardware changes.
If its found your device works properly if not found please check when is your drive’s gate open to push the open button?
If yes please shutdown your pc and check your drive data cable.
