Sony hvr-m25u Deck powers down immediately after power up.

I would need more information to help you. Any warning messages? Any smoke prior to shutdown? Certainly you have a short in the unit somewhere. You could unplug the unit and check all the final transistors for shorts. If not there I would look at the power supply section for problems. Let me know how you make out.

Can't eject tape from deck

On Sony DSR-80P error 02-221 and 02-291 is a problem with the tape pull-in or eject. Mostly the tape stickers are bad situated over the stripe-cover at the top, which should be moving freely!

Need to down convert 16:9 to 4:3

Down-conversion Capability
The HVR-1500 has a built-in down-conversion capability that allows 1080i recordings to be output as 480i and 576i signals from the i.LINK and SD-SDI interfaces. These signals can also be output from the analogue component, composite, or S-Video connectors. This allows 1080i recordings to be edited using non-linear editing systems running DV editing software or to be viewed on an SD monitor. When down-converting the 1080i recording, the aspect ratio displayed can be converted from 16:9 to 4:3. Display modes can be selected from Squeeze, Letterbox, or Edge crop.
