Recently downloaded the firmware updated for Samsung BD-P1200 Blue Ray player. Burned an image to cd. Followed the instructions to do cd update. But the player never shut down and now on power up .....the message load appears and you can not open cd tray to make another attempt at update or play a DVD. Is there a way to bootstrap the player and reload the default firmware from an eprom or is the unit now rendered useless. Have a lot of experience doing firmware updates and this is a first. Tried to update to ver 2 firmware update. Thanks for any assistance you can provide.
I had the same exact problem happen to me today. I called customer service and while they were very polite they told me my labor warranty was up and that I would need to pay if they were going to fix it. I would love to be able to fix it myself but the unit is pretty much useless.

I had the exact same issue and looking for a solution. Followed the instruction (on December 11,2007) as the first review above and the same symptoms, afterwards. Power off and and on and will see the "Loading" message on the player but nothing happens and cannot open the drive to re-initiate another attempt at the firmware upgrade. Need to do the firmware upgrade since I'm experiencing issues playing the Pirates of the Carribean #3 and Ratatouille - can't by pass the menu. I select play and nothing happens. If I don't find a solution within a week I will be returning in for a Sony or Pioneer. Too bad, I really enjoy the DVD upconversion of the Silicon Optix on the BD-P1200.I had the exact same issue and looking for a solution. I had to update my firmware on my Samsung BD-P1500. Followed the instructions on the Samsung Website. Make sure you use ISO Burning SW. I wasted 3 CD-R trying to burn the disk correctly.
Read the Upgrade Guide (PDF) for instructions on how to do this. It says to burn a CD. The ZIP file extracts to ISO type. The guide tells you what format it needs.
READ the PDF file under Upgrade Guide. Make sure you designate the proper file type when burning CD. Check your burning software.

You will need to download the firmware file and burn it to a cd-rom using your computer's cd burner then put it into the player. You will need to burn it in raw format and might need a burner program to do it. The player will need firmware upgrades often to be able to play the newer blu-ray movies.
If it ain't broke,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, as they say, as blue ray is still very new, is there an upgrade??? If there is you need to get a download from Samsung, burn to a disc, and load it into your player. But if it goes wrong, as I know it can, you may as well throw the player out. So if it's working ok, leave it so.
hey same problem here, but I just downloaded the CD version anyways... then dropped the .RUF file onto my desktop, selected it, burnt it to a CD-R (RW will also work) and popped it into the BD-P1500, so far it seems to be running along steadily in the update process... hope this solves your problem.
I too had this problem with Qauntum of Solace, I could get past the teasers and the warnings but when it gets to the main menu I select PLAY and it just stops at 00:00.
The firmware upgrade fixed it!
However I had to make a CD because the LAN method said I already had the latest version.
I downloaded Ver 2.5 from Samsung support site - ( http://pages.samsung.com/us/bluraysupport/support.html)
Then I needed to get Nero Burning ROM software (windows version) to burn an IMAGE of the .ISO file
(I use a Mac and just burning the file onto a CD didn't work)
You have to follow these instructions to the letter - ( http://org.downloadcenter.samsung.com/downloadfile/ContentsFile.aspx?CDSite=us&CttFileID=1488556&CDCttType=FM&ModelType=C&ModelName=BD-P1200&VPath=FM/200710/20071012103832890_BD-P1200_CD_Update_Process.pdf )
Finally the player recognized the firmware and did the upgrade to 081119_T22F_0924.07_XAA
Voila, QoS now plays without a hitch.
i fixed this exactly as previous posted solutions, however a couple of points.
a) recordable CDs work if you don't have a DVD burner.
b) I didn't have a CD burner that would do an "image burn", I downloaded a free copy of "Express Burn" and that worked fine. The disk needs to be "finalised" or "fixated", it should do this automatically, or it may be a tick box selection.
c) I got a "No DWLD 09" when I put the disk into the player. I found this was an incompatibility with the CD-R (Maxwell) I was using. I changed to JVC and it worked fine.
