You should do a factory reset using the reset button on the back using a paperclip.

Then you should insert the cd that your friend should also have given you (he didnt Hmm) if not you open an internet explorer page while hooked up (by wire) to the router and type into the address bar 192.168.1.1 on most netgear

The username is admin
and the password is 1234

From there you can use the setting your ISP gives you and also set wireless up.

As long as the router has wireless antenna's on it or indicates it is a wireless model then all you need to do is turn on the wireless function of the router. You do this by access the router, open a web browser and try either http://192.168.0.1 or http://192.168.0.100 one of those should be your router. Log in and go to the wireless settings. There you can enable it and configure it.

From there, as long as your laptop has a wireless network card built in, it will see the wireless network and you can just connect to it...

How to install for laptop

No software is needed for any router to get it installed on Laptop or on Desktop, if you know your Wireless SSID name and the Wireless Security password that you have set on the router then you can directly connect the laptop wirelessly to the router.

Have you unisntalled all the Linksys sofftware through add/remove software. I had a similar problem with an IOGEAR Bluetooth transceiver, I did the setup from the CD, my laptop (Dell C640) blue screened each time. I uninstalled all the IOGEAR software and my laptop stopped blue screening. I never installed the software for a wireless router, I always use the WEB interface and my life is my simplier.

ITS A FREEWARE THATS WHY ALL THE TOOLBARS but trust me you dont want them.
let the tool scan for updates for your computer install the update you find for the wireless card and reboot

Help installing

The thing you don't say, is that you already have a high speed network connection by either DSL or cable. You already have a modem/router that you plug into for your internet. This one is an extra one you would like to use as an access point for your home wireless network.

You will need to set it up as a router not a gateway in the configuration. You should turn off the DHCP for the wireless router and just let it perform pass thru to the primary router to assign IP addresses. Set up the wireless router to have an IP address in the same subnet as the primary. If primary is 192.168.1.1 set the wireless routers IP to be 192.168.1.2 or 192.168.1.3, etc. Then set up the configuration for the wireless settings and test the wireless connections with a laptop or PC. Plug the Wan connector on the wireless router to one of the ports on the primary router and you should be good to go.

Aspire one does not have a CD/DVDROM however you can use another computer to be able to setup your router. You can probably ask a friend to use his/her laptop that has a CD/DVD ROM. After setting up the router, you can connect your Acer Aspire by letting it detect the wireless signal and connecting to your router wirelessly.

**You can also try to insert the installer disc on another PC and copy all the contents of the CD/DVD installer of the Netgear into a USB flash Drive. Plug the USB flash Drive into your Acer then run the setup file inside and follow the instructions.
