SOURCE: hard starting outboard

Remove the starter and have it tested at a marine dealer or autoparts store. If it is dragging and taking too much voltage it will not start.Dragging starter also will keep the engine from spinning the speed needed to start.

Is the yamaha 2 stroke outboard bottom section the same as the 4 stroke bottom section. i have 60 4 stroke and 70 2 stroke, they look identical.

Matt, If engine is two stroke and not oil injected then yes you must mix 2 stroke oil and fuel. 4 stroke engine have a crank case which is filled to proper level with 4 stroke engine oil. Check the attached links,instruction and guides, Good luck

What should the RPM idle be for our Yamaha 4 stroke 150 outboard be. It seems to really clunk into gear. It only has about 250 hours on it. It is a 2004 that I just purchased. Thank you!

1982 55 yamaha outboard ,water not coming out the water pump hole in strenght

First thing to check: Disconnect the tiny hose between the check outlet and the engine. Disconnect it at the engine side.
With an airgun, blow in the check hole from outside to engine side.
With an airgun, blow out the engine connection.
Start the engine, check waterflow out of the engine connector. If water, reconnect the hose and check the water at the checkpoint.
If still no water at the engine connection: replace the impeller!

Engine or gearcase seized...
Remove the recoil starter ( 3 bolts and the startingear link)
If you can turn the flywheel slightly: Gearcase seized
If you can't turn the flywheel at all: Engine seized.
In both cases: If you can't disassemble and have the job done yourself, forget that motor...
