SOURCE: 5 year old Maytag Wide by Side Refrigerator side not cooling

Same issue with my 6 yr old Maytag side-by-side model #MSD2756GEW. Turned out it was caused by a faulty circuit board. This circuit board is located in the upper right fridge section. Apparently these boards are sensitive to power surges (which we have here in central Texas from time to time.) When the circuit board is fried, it makes a noise like a fan blade malfunctioning and it stops the auto defrost feature in the freezer from working. So the freezer ices up at the back, and the ice prevents the cold air from reaching the fridge section.

Our circuit board (which we thought was a fan) made ominous noises for a few months. (The noise would last only a minute or so and stop shortly after we opened a door). Eventually we noticed that the fridge wasn't as cold and the freezer had snow in it. Finally the board stopped making noise and about a week or so afterward we noticed that the milk had spoiled and the fridge wasn't very cold. The food in the freezer side pretty solidly frozen, thankfully.

In addition to replacing the circuit board, the fridge had to be de-iced or it would not work properly. I put it all frozen into a large camping cooler where it stayed for several hours. I opened the freezer doors and put table fan and pointed a hobby light which gets quite hot, at the back of the freezer. Within 3 hours, the ice had melted significantly so I could see through the grate at the back of the freezer. This really great technician named Tracy, made a special trip to the parts store to get the circuit board and came back within a couple hours, bringing with him a steamer. He removed the back panel inside the freezer section (the coils are behind there) and used the steamer to melt the rest of the ice before he left.

Tracey, who works for a local appliance repair company, told me that about 4 years ago, Maytag started making their fridges with built-in surge protection, so the circuit boards apparently don't get fried on the newer models as they do on my 6 yr old model. He recommended that we put plug the fridge into a heavy-duty surge protector - which we are definitely going to do.

SOURCE: Sub Zero Freezer Vacuum

If your freezer temps are ok, it may just be that your gasket is getting older and it becomes more porus as it ages. The vacume sound doesnt really mean alot except that the difference in the room temp and the cold of the freezer create this vacume.

SOURCE: Mullion between freezer and refrigerator is extremely hot.

They rarely use 'heaters' anymore. If there is a heater there will be somthing like a 'energy saver' option to turn it off. More likely it is a mullion loop that is part of the sealed system tubing. The harder the frige works the hotter that area will be. So if the inside temp rises so will the temperature of the mullion. Start by checking your frige and freezer temperatures with a thermometer. The freezer should be between 5-10 deg ABOVE zero and the frige should be about 35 or 36 deg. Also check that the condenser is not dirty. The condenser is the coils that are usually underneath the frige. They should be cleaned at least annually. Also while you're under there make sure the condenser fan is running. You should feel a little air movement and possibly hear it running from the front under the doors. If it's not running you'll need to find out why, but would usually be a problem with the motor. Also there was a carboard panel on the back at the bottom of the frige from the factory, that panel HAS to be in place to direct air across the condenser and not back behind the frige.

SOURCE: SubZero 532 frig lights out

There are two door switches one for fan and the other for the lights. With the compressor running, there are two so yu need to make sure it is the refrigerator and not the freezer, open the door and press the right switch and listen for a fan. The left should be your light switch and the problem is generally in the switch, on rare occasions there is a failure of bi-metal safety switch part number 4200850. One very rare occasions you may have a wiring proble. If you go to www.subzero.com there is a showroom locator tab on the top right corner, click it and you will go to a locator page which will get you to your local parts didtributor.

Subzero refrigerator/freezer, model 590. Door gaskets replaced last year, but it still ices up in top front of freezer? Any ideas?

Ice or frost in the freezer can be caused by one of Three issues:
    • An improperly closed door.
    • Improper ventilation of the freezer.
    • The Ice Maker Flap.
    1. Door Not Closed Properly
    • Make sure that the freezer door closes completely.
    • Make sure that the door gaskets are attached properly to the door and that they are clean. Also, make sure they are sealing properly and are not torn or split.
Take a dollar bill and close it in the door. If you can pull the dollar out with no resistance, the seals should be replaced.
    • Make sure there are no packages resting against the rear wall of the freezer.
2. Improper Ventilation
    • Make sure there are no packages resting against the rear wall of the freezer.
    • Space your food out as much as possible to improve ventilation.
    • Make sure that the air vent in the freezer is not blocked.
    Refrigerator Compartment
If your refrigerator is freezing food, the temperature is set too low. Raise the temperature a few degrees to fix the problem.
If your refrigerator temperature is too high, condensation may build up and freeze on the bottom of the refrigerator. Lower the temperature a few degrees to fix the problem.

Vacuum light on?

In 90% of the times, from my 5 years experience with subzero repairs, it will be leaking evaporator coil, compressor will run longer then suppose to (it still might keep temp). But first You need to check on all fan motors if they run. Also visually check if there is any snow or ice builds up in freezer and refrigerator compartments. if everything looks normal, then You need a serious repair. Here is video I made how to replace evaporator coils. Hope that was helpful!

What can I do ? I cant find the side for the ice drawer on my subzero Help??

if it is absolutely not in production any longer, there are a couple of things you could do
1.
try to find it from a scrap yard or second hand store. look on gumtree/craigslist/freecycle etc
or
2.
go to a gasket manufacturer and take the old one along and see if they have something that'll do the job.
i had a similar problem with my dishwasher and it worked.

i went to a motor rewinds company and got another gasket made.

i think companies should not be allowed to make a big machine defunct due to withdrawing a small part such as a gasket. it is simply a way to make you buy a whole new machine and it is unethical and wasteful.
personally i would boycott that company for evermore.
hope it works out for you.

Subzero 532 refrig fan(& compressor) doesn't shut off

the higher the number on a fridge the warmer it is so setting it to 1 is close to 0C
when working on a fridge or freezer always turn it off at the wall
if the fridge is keep cold but not cold enough set it back to say 3
if the compressor is running and the back fins / wall is hot then the fridge is working
use a piece of paper between the door seal and the fridge edge to ensure that it is sticking to the fridge and sealing off properly

A creaking noise when the freezer is opened & then closed

In some freezers they build up excessive vacuum which pulls the plastic housing away from the internal polyurethane insulation, hence the creaking sound. You can make a vacuum breaker by attaching a small stick or similar to the bottom of the door gasket, this will break the vacuum without losing temperature.
