I don't know if this is the best answer, but I would try to slip a heavy credit card between the door and the jam where the knob is. It may be a quick solution for the moment.

SOURCE: Lost entry door key, need to rekey kwikset deadbolt

Unfortunatley you need to have the key to remove the cylinder. You can take it to a locksmith that can pick" it to remove the cylinder and make you a key but it may be more cost effective to replace it.

Sorry not to be mre help.

SOURCE: the key for my kwikset door handle lock won't

Hi,
The answers to your problem are very numerous.
Usually what has happened is that when the lock was installed the pins (the part of the lock that rides on the cut part of the key) were not facing down. This allows dirt and debris to collect in the pin holes and also if a spring breaks it won't push the pin up to the cut part of the key. Some locks you can't even rotate to a position that faces down.
What I suggest is removing the knob or lever lock from the door and blowing out the key hole with compressed air. Work the key back and forth through the lock and blow it out again. If this doesn't work ... try and get a refund or a replacement from wherever you got it. Remember your time is worth money and so is your frustration. Don't waste allot of time trying to fix something that can be replaced relatively cheaply.
Thanks,

Kwikset lockset does not lock

The shaft for the lock fits in the knob. The lock on the knob might be 90 or 180 degrees out of rotation. Please remove the know and twist the lock 1/4 turn and put it back together. Also you may need to reset the location with a key and when the lock knob is off, turn the lock set with the key, then turn it and replace the knob.

Door knob replacement

On the inside side of the door knob you should be able to use a screwdriver to remove the finish covering against the door. This should get you to a point where you can release everything.

I have an exterior screwless doorknob that I need to remove. The faceplate on the inside knob that covers the screws is also covering the little pin that removes the knob. Is there another way to remove...

There is the 3rd version of the Kwikset exterior door set. The interior face plate is removed and on each side of the base plate has small slots with a lever on either side that need to be moved to the other end of the slot. The whole interior knob assembly with come off.

Hi,
The instructions they send are almost always generic and cover more than one subject.
If you insert the key and turn it all the way clockwise, you should be able to insert the tool tip they sent you into the hole on the shank part of the handle. Pull straight out and it should come off. Some times it takes several attempts to do.
Next turn key counter clockwise back to starting position and remove key. Dump lock out of handle, paying attention to orientation. Turn lock 180 degrees and reinsert back into handle. Put lock and handle back on to door and reinsert the key. Turn key clockwise and push.... remove key.

Hope this Helps,

Doorknob sticks in 'lock' position-but no real 'lock' feature

If this is the lock part itself, try gradually loosening install screw enough to be able to manuver lock to work and if so slowly tighten as you test each time gradually. Please clarify problem more if need to.
