MAYTAG Ice control doesn't change from Cubed to Crush

MAYTAG MSD2756GEB. It seems that the motor that moves the level to go from Crushed to Cube isn't working. Right now all we get is crushed ice. The rest of the door panel controls are working as far as I can tell. Any ideas to help out? We really only used cubed ice.

Thanks,

If you prefer ONLY cubes , remove the ice bin and 1 or 2 screws hold the long rod attached to the bin . Without this rod , you'll only get cubes . With the bin removed , the square hole where the rod inserts in the rear freezer wall , you'll see a square , white , plastic "gate" . Asolenoid with a plunger , raises this gate for cubed ice and keeps it lowerer for crushed ice . Usually this "gate" plunger , rusts , thereby replaceing the solenoid and plunger would have to be done . Without the rod on the bin , the inner flap would open automatically , dispensing cubed ice .

My maytag refrigerator crushed ice will not switch back to cubes

Try replacing the ice bucket. That has the teeth and gears that crush the ice up. It could be stuck. If not then there's a solenoid in the back of the freezer that switches the ice bucket from cubed to crushed. You'll see the rod in the ice bucket slides into a square hole that moves up and down. That's it there.

Mu Kenmore refrigerator's ice maker is dispensing crushed iced even in the cube mode

Take out the ice bucket and check the metal arm and make sure it moves freely. Ice may have gotten stuck.

Maytag MSD2651KES delivers crushed ice but no cubed

There is an metal arm that extends out behind the ice bucket that moves up and down when you press the cubed/crushed ice buttons. You need to take the ice bucket out and check the hardware. It's possible that some ice has managed to form in the unit and are blocking the motion. Remove any ice and check if the arm moves freely when you press the buttons on the refrigerator. Similarly, you should check if there is ice blocking the forward and back motion of the plunger in the freezer that bar sits on. This plunger is right next to the auger motor.

Why would crushed ice come out when cubed ice is selected?

Hi,
There is another set of blades that pull in to crush the ice... they are stuck in the crushed position causing you to get crushed ice always...
See if the solenoid is stuck or bad that moves the crushed ice blades...

When dispensing ice, it only gives crushed ice and not cubed even when you are on the cubed ice setting.

most likely the solinoid to change from crush to cubed is bad or frozen. if you pull the ice bucket the metal arm on the back of bucket goes into plastic piece back by auger motor. that is where solinoid is. put finger in plastic piece see if you can move it up and down..

Ice maker only operates on crushed ice mode

There should be a solenoid behind the ice bucket that moves an metal arm on the ice bucket to move the crush teeth away for cubes or keeps the crush teeth in place for crushed cubes. Bad solenoid, bad wire at the solenoid, broken solenoid/mechanism piece, bent arm, no power from dispenser to the solenoid are -some- possible trouble makers.

Also the solenoid that controls the crush/cube function is probably frozen. First, pull out your ice bucket. On the bottom of the bucket is a long metal rod the runs all the way to the back wall of the freezer. That rod runs into a little square hole in the back of the freezer. The hole is about 1 and half inches square. Just put your finger in there and see if the solenoid plunger moves up and down easily. If it doesn't move, then it is frozen. Just hit that area with a hair dryer and it will release. If it moves easily, then make sure that the the rod on the ice bucket is seated in there properly

Frigidaire In Door Ice Dispenser

betz589,

I had the same problem and just finished fixing it myself. 1st, slide out your ice bin about 3-4" and look underneath it. There will be a long brass rod running along the underside of the ice and goes into a little square hole below the ice maker. This rod runs the flap on the dispensor and keeps it closed for crushed ice and opens the flap for cubed ice. The is a plastic bar inside the little square hole that needs to be moved. Slide your finger onto the plastic bar inside the square hole and move it either up or down. Slide the ice bin back in and try cubed ice. If it doesn't work, move the plastic bar the other direction. This will fix your problem...........Good Luck! Dennis

MZD2666KES will no longer crush ice. The dispenser light is on however it dispenses cubes only.

Did you pull the icemaker out and then have the problem?
If so, select 'Crush' and Slide the ice maker out and slide back in. You will notice a rod on the end (bottom left of the unit) slides into a little cubicle that moves up and down to provide either crushed or cubed.

Icemaker only dispenses crushed ice, not cubes

There is an opening next to the auger that dispenses the ice.  In there there is a lever that must move up and down. It actually seats the metal rod on the bottom of the ice maker and controls cube or crushed.  Make sure the lever is down (cube position) when you return the basket to the freezer. I had to hold it down while I slid the rod into the opening. Viola! Cubes again. http://www.applianceblog.com/mainforums/showthread.php?t=783
