When i connect my d80 to my pc it freezes - Nikon D80 Digital Camera with 18-135mm Lens

Confirming the firmware version:

1. Turn on the D80
2. Press the MENU button and select Firmware Version from the setup menu. The camera's firmware version will be displayed.
3. Turn off the D80

1. Download and expand the firmware files
2. Format an approved SD (Secure Digital) memory card in the camera
3. Connect Camera to computer (in MSC USB mode) or use a SD Card Reader
4. Copy to the top level of the card the downloaded "A firmware" file
5. Disconnect camera from computer
6. Update the firmware from the "Setup" menu
7. Follow the camera's on-screen menus
8. Repeat steps 2 through 7 using the "B Firmware"
9. Re-format Card

Hi, Have you cleaned the lens' electrical contacts?or is the lens connected loosely?? Examine but probably little need to clean the camera's electric contacts considering its' young age. Do you have access to another AF body on which you can test the lens and another AF lens to test the D80? Do the following things 1.take a dust free eraser and clean the contacts on the camera carefully by keeping it upside down to prevent dust going inside. 2.do the same for lens contacts. re-attach the lens firmly. hope this solves your probs. regards sreejith

try cuting off and then back on. make sure software is updated. take lens off and put it back on while camera is shut down. making sure connection is good. may need to send to nikon for general maintenance, clean lens, and possible a new shutter.

if u r getting green signal of flash charging,then discharging section is defective,sochaque the section replace the parts xenon tube etc or take it to a tech.

Use a card reader instead of your camera.

Use the supplied video cable to connect the camera to a TV.

Unmount the lens and clean both the camera and lens contacts (the metal strips that connect body with lens) using a pencil eraser. Take care not to let any debris fall into the camera. Mount the lens and try again.
