Intel® Desktop Board D865GBF won't start but has power?

Hey guys,

I went out of town for a few days. I left my comp off and now it won't 'turn on'. I can press the power button and I get the light for the power but it doesn't begin the boot process. I opened the case and I have a light (STR LED) on the motherboard (Intel® Desktop Board D865GBF).

I have seen a similar problem with an Apple G4 and I had to press a reset button on the motherboard, but I'm not seeing anything here.like that.

I also checked the battery on the board and it is fine.

Hi, I also have the same problem my disk drives will not open and the
boot process wont start. Only thing that works is the fans and the
green light on the mother board. I tried the above buy still nothing. I think it might be a burned out mother board since the last time I turned it on I smelled something burning but I am not sure.

I have intel D865GBF mother board. It is 4 years old. Recently I face a problem- After Switch on my computer by pressing Power key it does not start. Power light indicating power on the mother board, all fans are working too but no booting process is executed. Monitor's power button
is blinking continiously. No Disply happens on the screen. I test the monitor  by other CPUs it works OK.What is the prob then?

Same problem with 2nd hand mobo. Config seems to work ok; changed settings to slow down boot and show everything. Tried various reconfigs with on-board video and also pci video card, and symptoms are same,ie no beep to show end of post, and monitor power led just blinks at you. Also noted that floppy drive leds don't blink to show access at boot process, tho' HD feels as tho' it gets accessed. Thought i might have had a OS prob, so tried other HDs with different OSs. Same outcome. But now I suspect boot process doesn't even get off the ground, otherwise I should be seeing error messages on screen. Thought maybe of reloading firmware, but i guess i can't even do that if boot is failing. Any thoughts please, or do i just throw it away?

My Intel D945 GNT/PSN/*** (don't remember which one, need to check the spec) got the same problem

My pc was find until I move it from one room to another room. It boots up on the first try without video (all fans on) for a few second, then it turns off. (all fans off) but the power LED stay on. and the same on board LED (STR? LED) is on.

I tried the new power supply remove everything, and reset on board battery. but the power LED and the STR LED still on and all fans off. (NOT BOOT)

Is there anyone know anything about this problem?

Thank you very much for your help......

If you are wanting to try a reset, near the bios or cmos battery there should be 3 pins with a jumper across 1 and 2. To reset the bios, move the jumper to pins 2 and 3, then back to 1 and 2 for normal operation.

I know you probably moved past this problem already, but I'll post to help other people in the same situation.

The red light you encountered means that the RAM module(s) failed. If you have only one stick you can replace it with another one, you can find compatible RAM sticks in your motherboard's manual; if you have two or more RAM sticks, you can try connecting one at a time and see what happens, maybe only one of them is unusable but the other one still works fine.

The thing with RAM is that the older the stick is, the more expensive it will be... So if your computer is a couple of years old, a RAM stick can be quite costly compared to a modern one. If the price is too large, you can consider getting a new motherboad and RAM altogether if you stretch your budget a bit.

Try removing all pci ,agp cards and power plugs from cd's, 2nd drives etc,if it spins up cpu fan refit minimum- grapics,1x ram, to post, if still no go-- Try shorting green wire to any black wire(either side of green) on power supply plug with ends of paperclip etc. this will often start a board that wont start .DONT try this on any other terminals though.I have started many boards like this.

Do not forget dual channel is starting only if you have 2 pc-s ram. Same size, same speed, same brand. Otherwise always expect troubles, if the mobo boot at all.

Do you start up the computer when you put the jumper settings to 2 and 3 then shut it off before you put it back to the 1 and 2 possition?

Hello folks. Ive been having the same problem. However, mine started quite differently. My CPU had been overheating, so I bought a Water-Cooling kit. Well, I didnt read the directions, so installed it and went to fill up the tank with antifreeze, and it leaked all over my motherboard. I rushed to padd it off with a cloth, and I let it dry before even thinking of turning it back on. So I let it sit for 2 days and got the watercooling system to work on its own, then installed it again and booted it up. I got the same problem, no beep, blinking screen, though the HD sounds like its being accessed.

No circuts could have been fried because the PC was disconnected from power at the time of install, and had been for a while, so all the capacitors had be discharged. If fluid didnt cause the problem, maybe it was from overheating before I installed the watercooler? What do you think?

Anyway, I tried the jumper thing, and it didnt work. I put it on pins 2 and 3, booted to the same problem, then shut down and changed the jumper back. No effect. So then I got thinking, if it overheated, maybe the 3v removable circular battery got burnt out or something. So I took it out, and sure enough, there was a nice dark mark where the battery was touching the contacts of the mobtherboard. So I turned it 90degrees and fired it back up. But unfourtinatley, it had no effect. Wasted efforts. Sounds like its time to order a new board, only problem is they are hard to find now. Not many people sell 478 boards online anymore.

Anyone have any ideas?

remove the mobo. from the case. of course remove everything from the mobo first. remove the battery. wash with ariel. 2 times with soft paint brush. put to dry. after 2 days should start working like brand new if you dont have bloated caps or fried chip
