I have one of this trimmers. It is simple to replace the line.
-First line up the arrows on the bottom of the spindle.
-Then feed the line back in one of the holes in the side of the spindle (this is the same hole that the cutting string comes out of).
-You will see the line come out of the bottom of the spindle.
-Take that line a place it in the hole on the bottom of the spindle.
-Leave about 9 feet of string hanging out of the weed eater (do the same with the other side).
-Then turn the inside wheel (I can't remember if it is clock wise or counter clock-wise but it will only turn one way) most of the string is rolled into the spindle.
-Cut the string of about 5 inches out of the weed eater. You're ready to cut!

SOURCE: put string on tb425cs troy bilt trimmer

there are two ways to install the string..the cool way is without pulling the inner reel off the trimmer..just leave it in place..cut (2) approx.two arms length (thats spreading your arms out like airplane wings) of .095 string..now, align the arrow of the inner reel (it turns counter clock-wise..the arrow points outward) with the arrow on the outer spool (pointing inward)..holding the spool and reel together so the inner reel doesnt move, push one of the cut strings through the eyehole in the side of the outer spool, and it should come up to the right, through a slot next to a small round hole the diameter of the string..if it doesnt, it just missed the exit (as i call it)..pull out and try again..let about an inch come thru..now take that end of the string and push the line into the little round hole until it stops, which should be about a little more than 1/8 of an inch..hold it in while pulling the excess line outside the spool to keep it in place..now do the same with the other string for the other side..once you have both lines in place, turn the inner reel counter clock-wise to draw in both lines through the eyeholes of the outer spool..you may or may not get all of the line to wind in..not a problem..you will still have enough to do what you need to do..just cut off the rest..one problem you may or may not have that i do most of the tyme is that it gets hard to turn the inner reel..one solution is to bump the top of the 'bump knob' with your fist, then pull both strings at the same tyme, then continue to turn..this method is quicker and easier than the second way of having the inner reel out and trying to wind both lines at the same tyme and trying to place the reel back in the spool..hope this works for you...

SOURCE: B & D auto feed string trimmer won't advance string

Is the string spool seated on the rachet correctly? If so and all is well, it is worth noting that these trimmers auto feed fuunction is problematic at best, requiring manually unwinding some line every few minutes as the unit gets older.

How do I replace the throttle on my fs38 Stihl weed eater

To replace the throttle on a Stihl FS38 weed eater, you'll need to follow these steps:
  1. Disconnect the spark plug wire to prevent accidental starting.
  2. Locate the throttle cable where it connects to the carburetor and carburetor housing.
  3. Use pliers to loosen the lock nut on the carburetor side of the throttle cable and slide the cable out of the carburetor and carburetor housing.
  4. Replace the throttle cable with the new one, feeding it through the carburetor and carburetor housing and tightening the lock nut on the carburetor side with pliers.
  5. Check the operation of the throttle by starting the engine and confirming that the throttle cable moves freely and the engine speed changes accordingly when the throttle is manipulated.
  6. Reconnect the spark plug wire.
It's recommended to consult your FS38's user manual for specific instructions as the process may vary slightly based on the model.

Fs38 Stihl weed trimmer extremely very hard to pull with sparkplug in but no problem with no plug.

A hard pull on that unit would indicate a sheared flywheel key. The key is part of the flywheel. Check to see if there are 'rub or scrape' marks on the outside of the flywheel. Adjust coil clearance to .010". Coils on those models are normally very reliable. Use a spark tester for lawn mower engines. Preferably with a light in the center of the tester wire. If it its an adjustable tester, adjust the gap to at least .065 to 0.85". The light tester should produce a bright orange light, the adjustable tester should produce a bright blue spark. I cannot find specs on those models, as dealers use the 'light in wire' type tester.

How to change string?

Hello,

If you look at the bottom of the string holder (flipping the machine over) there should be either two tabs on the side across from each other that you press and pull, OR a twist and pull. There are several pieces, the inner piece that the string comes on has a hole that the string goes into to hold the string in place (needle nose pliers--press into hole). Then there is an arrow on the string holder, just wind the string in the direction of the arrow (does not have to be perfect) until you get enough on the holder. Now, hold the string so that the spool does not unravel--feed the end through the hole(s) and replace parts as they came off of the trimmer.

I hope this helps.

How do I change the string on a wheeled weedeater brand trimmer

Purchase precut pieces of string. Check the dealer or or big box store for the correct part. The precut string is easily clipped in. Remove the old piece by pushing back and lifting up on the piece until it comes loose. Put the new piece in the slot and pull it forward to seat it. Repeat for the other side(s)

Did you put the right amount of string back in the trimmer? If you put back too much it will tangle up.

Why will the trimmer head will not come off?

If you're talking about the line reel, Grip it with water pump pliers and pull. The springs are strong. Just push the new reel back on.

String will not feed for BD grasshop Gh600 type 2

Have a problem with your B&D GH600 trimmer? Replace part LEVER, Item #29, Part #598435-00 for about $3.00 (B&D or Dewalt). Just pull old level straight out with pliers (ends expand to hold it in place) and push replacement in. No other parts.

Need to replace line on FS38 Line Trimmer. No instuction manual. It must be an easy procedure. What diameter line and how is it done?

I googled your fs38. It is a Stihl FS38. The first sight on the search comes up with an 82 page operating manual from stihl.ca
This should help.
Good Day.

Ryobi Trimmer

To install string in the Ryobi you do not have to disassemble anything: Line up the two arrows on the inner and outer reel, remove any excess string, cut two pieces of string about 10 feet, feed line in the side holes, secure line in hole where it comes out the bottom (it only takes about 1/4in. to do so), pull strings tight, then turn the inner reel counter clockwise to wind it. If it sticks a little just pull line a little.
To remove the inner spool in order to remove line that has broken inside, to clean the mechanism, or to perform other maintenance, grasp the outer reel and unscrew the bump knob counter-clockwise. Mine is often very tight and requires pliers to get enough leverage. While you are in there, clean the inner reel and the inside of the outer reel to improve feed performance. The shaft rarely needs cleaning. Do not lubricate. After re-installing the reel, add string (0.080") as described above.
