Clogged holes inside rubber boot at 6 o'clock position. Try tweezers or Turkey baster. Clean boot with dishwasher detergent. Cleans mold.

SOURCE: Washing Machine develops moldy smell

Let's put the $1,000.000 problem right on the doorstep where it belongs!

We should not have to jump through hoops just do do laundry for crying out loud!

Since when do we allow ourselves to become victims like this? This is outrageous and manufacturers are profiting while we struggle with these seriously flawed product designs.

So, contact your manufacturer and members of Congress and the Better Business Bureau and DO some major consumer complaining and then try the following as recommended by our local appliance store which received this via fax.

No kidding; a fax sent to appliance stores by a manufacturer with the following instructions for customers to do regularly to manage mold in the machines.

*First, run a full complete wash cycle on hottest setting containing Bleach – * Note: full wash cycle takes 1 hour and 20 minutes on my machine.

*Next, run a full wash cycle on hottest setting using high efficiency laundry detergent * another 1 hour and 20 minutes

*Next, run a full wash cycle on hottest setting using Cascade automatic dish washing detergent *an ADDITIONAL 1 hour and 20 minutes

*Next, using Bleach water, wipe down entire interior of washing machine

*Next, using clean white cloth, wipe entire interior of washing machine dry

*Next, leave door ajar to air out machine

*Finally, I have now been informed that I cannot use fabric softener in the machine even though there is a fabric softener dispenser right in the machine because the new front loading machines cannot handle fabric softener!!

This is outrageous! Our poor $1,000.00 plus new washing machine cannot handle fabric softener.

Give me a break!

SOURCE: musty mildew smell

It is the same with all the front load machines out there. I do a bleach load once a week and always leave the door unlatched. All washers always have some water left in them. You can also wipe the gasket down with a weak bleach and water mix on a rag it will help also.

SOURCE: grey front seal holding water

Old machines used to have a drain hose in the bottom to take that water away however they tended to snap off and allow water to leak on the floor .

On new ones they accept that water will lay in the gasket.

If it bothers you try putting a strip of Vileda cloth into the gasket at the end of the wash to soak it up .

It is bright enough to see and to remind you to remove and dry it.

Add a little Soda Crystal to the soap drawer , thsi softens the water and stops smells

SOURCE: How do I get rid of the musty smell?

If you know someone who owns a bar, ask them for about 1/2 pt of line cleaning fluid. Start your machine on a 60o wash (empty) and as soon as the water starts flowing into the powder drawer, slowly pour the line cleaner into the water flow. Let the machine go through it's normal cycle, then run the same cycle programme as soon as you can (immediatly if possible) using clean water. Following this action, get your finger and rub it along the inside of the drum, if it's squeekly clean it's solved, if it feels slightly slimely, run the water only wash again the completly to remove any further residue of the cleaner. The smell should go. Let me know how you get on, Regards Dave.

My clothes stink so bad from my front end LG washer! My co-worker on my first week of work started buying bath and body sprays and body wash leaving it on my desk. I'm so pissed off because my washer was...

My LG stunk too. I did the tub washing with 1 cup bleach and wiping the rim, leaving everything open, nothing worked. I added 2 cups of a 6% bleach and used the tub cleaning cycle, rinsed with an empty hot water cycle then added bleach-able clothes to the 2nd hot water rinse (the third cycle/step). It gets a very strong bleach smell so don't take a whiff if you open the door in the first 2 cycles! After I did the strong bleach cycle, I am able to treat with just the 1 cup bleach about every 3 or 4 weeks and I make sure to wash with a hot water wash every week and a half at the least. This seems to keep my clothes smelling fresh like they should. Before I bought the LG, I read where people turned up the amount of water the washer takes in but I can't find the link that said how to do that. I think it was 1/4 turn on a screw on the top of the machine (when you take the cover off) but I can't guarantee how to do that.

Hi We Have a ge front load washer and dryer and it seems that our clothes smell musty at times. I've tried leaving the door open on the washer when not in use. Could there be another prooblem??

Try using vinegar, baking soda, or bleach in an empty load to counteract any residues left in onboard water. Also check for debris stuck in door baffle(rubber sleeve between door and tub).

FTF530FS Front Load washing machine. Clothes smell.

all front load washers have the problem. Mold and a build up or dirt and soap and fabric softner cause s old musty smell. The low water use makes the machine dirty and build up inside. Run a few Hot water washes with out clothing, Run it empty ,(run your hot water neer your washer to get the cold water out of the house pipes) hot water and pour bleach in side, 2 or more cups. Keep doing it. When your not using washer leave the door open so air can get inside. Hot wash,es with bleach will keep it clean, also dont use fab softner.

I have an older front loading washer Frigidaire and it's now smelling like mold on all our clothes thought it was me leaving clothes in to long but it's not. model #FWT445GES2 serial #XC74463636 . I have...

No recall, Pour 2 cups of bleach into the washer, Wash on HOT water, long cycle. Then wipe seal with dry cloth. This will eliminate the mold smell... To stop it from coming back ALL front load washer doors MUST be left open to allow the rubber seal to dry, Just like you close your shower curtain so it doesn't get musty smelling... 2 hours is about the dry time... wiping the seal with a cloth usually helps too... All located in your owners manual/

The front seal of washer holds water and it smells!

As the Door Boot Seal is convoluted it will hold a certain amount of water when the cycle is finished

Have you tried placing a wad of kitchen roll into the area to soak up the excess water before you close the door ?

Bad smell in washer

The front door seal stays moist an will grow mold. The mold smells and must be removed from the seal. To remove the mold you will need to remove by manipulating the seal to get under it. The mold will stink up you towels and other fabrics that have much of a pile to them. I have run my laundry with an oxygen sanitizer that I use to clean beer brewing equipment. This is the only thing that gets the smell out. Sears has a service flash on this but no solution. You might try leaving the door open so the seal can dry.
