My washing machine recently started flooding the basement when placed on a cycle.
Through experiments, I have determined that the reason for this is because it never stops filling during the cycle and eventually fills the whole tub and leaks out of the overflow tube.
I suspected a bogus pressure switch, but when I manually blow on the tube that leads to it, it does seem to work properly (cuts off water - goes to agitation phase).
I don't want to waste money on a repair tech or unnecessary spare parts, so the problem is most likely:
A) Crud bunging up the drum, so the water can't get to the tube?
B) A leak or blockage in the tube itself?
C) It's still probably the pressure switch anyway?
D) Something else?
Any suggestions welcomed with gratitude ;-)
Since the water stops running in and goes to the agitation mode when you blow on the tube, it is more than likely the pressure switch - one thing to check though, put it in the fill cycle [with water running in] and unplug the power cord. the water should stop running in. if it doesn't, the fill valve is sticking open and should be replaced

The water does stop running when unplugged. I tried blowing through the tube the other way and had no trouble producing bubbles in the half-full drum, that suggests to me that there isn't a blockage.
I have to agree that the pressure switch is the culprit...I'll order a new one.
Many thanks!!
