I have a T-FAL Avantis 100 iron. The bottom plate is discolored and the wire is split near the iron as the protector got damaged. Now there is a sporadic contact. Could I get a new bottom plate? Serge

Sometimes the bottom plate can be cleaned. they make polish for that. Normally, it isn't replaceable. The iron will have to come apart to replace the wire. I would not use it until you do as the loose wire might contact the case and then what would you do. Light up?

When empty, fill with white vinegar, let it heat up then hold the steam button down to let the vinegar run through the iron. Do this over the sink!! Then fill with water and repeat to rinse the vinegar out.
The vinegar will dissolve the mineral deposits in the iron.

Hi, Brown water and whitescale are often the result of the water you use in the iron... If you have scale, white vinegar will clean that... For brown water, empty the iron, rinse out the insides with bottled water, and then use the bottled water instead...

How to put water in T-Fal Latitude 30 travel iron

Hello -

You can find and download the user manual for the Tefal Latitude 30 travel iron from this Tefal web page:
https://www.tefal.com/instructions-for-use/Products/Linen-Care/Dry-iron-and-Travel-iron/csc/DryIronAndTravelIron

Scroll down on that web page to near the bottom. There you should see a heading for Travel Iron and an icon and link for Latitude. Click or tap on the Latitude link.

That will bring you to the Tefal web page for Tefal LATITUDE User Manuals:
https://www.tefal.com/instructions-for-use/Products/Linen-Care/Dry-iron-and-Travel-iron/Travel-iron/LATITUDE/csp/2800000013

On that web page in the section headed Instructions and Manual (with an icon for Warranty Information) you should see a search box with a drop down menu and the direction "Choose a language for displaying the instructions and user manuals:" Click or tap on the downward pointing arrow on the right end of the search box and choose the language you want for the manual.

A Download Manual icon will appear. Click or tap on it.

Then, you will see the PDF document for the user manual. You will need Adobe Acrobat Reader (free) software.

The first illustration of the iron you should see in the manual indicated where the Water Tank Filler cap is located near the tip of the iron handle. The water tank is within the handle.

Best wishes.

No instructions came with my Avantis 100. Mode. 1829/A 3.12 104. I have used it for several years, just guessing and hoping I am using it correctly. Would you have information on it.

If you have been using it for several years, you are using it correctly already. the fact that it still operates indicates that you use the proper sort of water in it (not using distilled water is the number one cause of failure in irons). The information available for the Avantis is really generic and will not add to your success, I assure you. Iron on! Farmerbear at FixYa.com

The iron will not turn on or light up. It is not the cord.

There should be screws in the back where the cord is inserted, remove these screws. Now you should see the cord, check to make sure the wires are connected, both the ground and hot wire. If all wires are ok, then check the on/safety shutoff switch for damage with a voltmeter.

Hi My iron seems to auto shut off in 2 secs when I plug in the power, it shows the red light for a sec and off, what could be the issues.

How old is it?
Is it still under warrenty? if it is take it back to where you bought it.

Otherwise it sounds like the thermostat is broken. Wallmart has some very nice cheap irons.

We fixed ours today. Take the iron plate off (bottom of the iron shaped like a triangle). You are looking for a thermal fuse (or thermal-protector fuse) pictured here for less than $2 at Radio Shack(http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2102788&CAWELAID=107599331). You will need needlenose pliers to gently remove the old fuse and the wire cutters to trim the long wires to the same length as the old fuse (less than 1/2"). Also, since the old fuse was 240 C and we only could find a 228 C replacement - we cannot use the iron at the same high temp. So we limited the dial by marking out a portion of the dial. The iron stopped working after I kept the iron on high for an extended period of time. My electrician husband explained that I over heated the iron - breaking the fuse. Not time I'll turn the iron off or down when I'm not using it. This was so easy, I'm going to check out our other broken irons.
