Do the following:
Unplug laptop cord and remove battery to reset the laptop.
Restart the laptop wint headphone jack IN.
After Windows has restarted with headphone plugged, while windows is on, unplug headphones and restart Windows again with headphones NOT plugged this time.

Don't worry about that, your problem is of a missing Sound Driver.
You can select your Presario 700 version from this list here:

Then go for sound driver, and download the sound drivers presented, try one after another untill you get you Sound working fine.
SOURCE: no internal sound but it working in headphone
you need to reinstall the audio driver ,some time it happens the audio comes from headphone and internal speakers stops working.
if you are using win xp, you need to uninsall the audio driver from device manager and then you need to install uaa driver and then conexant high defination audio driver. i m very much sure it will resolve you issue. in win xp , the audio driver has to be installed manually from device manager..here are the links for audio

process of installation :-
Open device manager and right-click on Audio device on High definition Audio Bus.
Select Install from a list of specific location (Advanced) Click Next
Select Don’t Search. I will choose the driver to install.
Select Sound, Game & video controller from the list of Hardware type
Click on Have Disk
Click on Browse and navigate to C:swsetupsp35270 and click on Open and OK
Click Next
It will give you an update driver warning message. Click on yes.
It will start installing the driver
Click on Finish
