No display but still have sound on my sony cdx

It sounds like something is wrong with the connection -- ie, there is an intermediate short or ground fault. or there is a signal comparability problem. The easiest way would be to connect other devices and see if there is a similar problem with either component -- then you will know with which device the problem resides. A wire trace/tone box may also help you too see where the problem is -- likely you will also need a multi-meter to see if you are having signal variations.

More information would help as well -- like the type of connection being used -- wire; Clip; RCA jacks etc.

Hello Dan, have you tried to reset the unit using the reset button behind the front panel? also try to clean the panel metal contacts, clean them using a cotton swabs or an handkerchief wet with alcohol, both side (main unit & detachable panel)

you more than likely have a bad flexible cable(s).

if it is a sony, do yourself a favor and buy another unit.

There is a ribbon cable that runs all the flip panels electrics, these are prone to breakage.
I have seen some of the cables on e-bay for a few quid, and also if you google "sony x-pod ribbon cable" you will get a big choice of places to order, and get instructions on fitting.

i resolved this myself in the end.
I unplugged the audio & power cables whilst the stereo and engine was running.
Then plugged back in.
I turned the engine off and stereo off as well.
I then unplugged audio and power again from the back of the CDX, left it unplugged for 10 minutes whilst the engine was still off.
I then plugged the leads back in and turned the engine on. the stereo recognised the CDX, but stayed on displaying "CD Checking". I switched to radio for 20 seconds, turned back to CDX and it selected CD 1 and has been good ever since.

I'm rather pleased with myself!

JUST PRESS THE RESET BUTTON
IF THIS DOSNT WORK CHECK THAT THE PLUG WIRES ARE SECURE I HAD THIS PROBLEM LAST YEAR AND IT TURNED OUT THAT ID UNPLUGGED THE STEREO BUT AS I RECONNECTED IT THE PIN HAD PUSHED THE CONNECTOR AWAY SO SOMETIMES IT WORKED OTHER TIMES IT DIDNT WHEN I HIT A BUMP IT WOULD MAKE THE CONNECTION BREAK

if the remote makes it work and it plays ....if all functions work other than display check for bad solder joints on the display pay  attention to the ones on the corners if the unit is or was a tight fit in the dash its possible that the unit got a little stress and broke loose from the board .... if there is a white powder look in the display it probably bad... the silvery black in the corners is normal
