Hi, this may not help you because I do not have the exact error you described. But here is some text from the MS website:The installation of the 2007 Microsoft Office suite Service
Pack 1 (SP1) fails with error 1935 or with error 78F. This failure occurs when
the Windows Installer encounters a reference either to a drive that no longer
exists or to a removable media device that contains no readable media. For
example, this failure may occur when the Windows Installer encounters a
reference to an empty DVD drive or to an empty CD drive. The issue is not
caused by the update design of the 2007 Microsoft Office suite Service Pack 1
(SP1).

Yes. It is a backup copy of my original disk. My original disk has got a crack on the disk so it is now unreadable/unplayable. Lucky I made a backup copy when I purchased it.
Also forgot to mention that I have tried running in safe mode and all office applications run in safe mode. In normal mode, it still doesn't run.
I have just reinstalled ms office again. Somehow the low memory/hard disk space pop up screen has vanished. Now when I click on word or any other office app, it runs different kinds of set up screens (including configuring application, which looks similar to office installion screen), before going in word or whatever. When finally done, a pop up appears in front of MS Word and says something like' Word has not been installed for the following user. Please run setup to install the program'. When I click the 'OK' button, the application completely closes.
Whats going on? Is this because I have got a 64 bit version of vista? I have got the same program installed on my PC and my other laptop. They both have 32 bit version of Vista. Office works fine on those machines. Could it be this as well?
I'm at loss here. Can't believe this crap!
BTW, still runs fine in safe mode.
Done it! It's working now! Thank God!
All I did was, I went to the actual folder where Office is installed (C:\Programs Fles (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office12) and right clicked all the .exe files to change the compatibility mode from properties. I gave them all 'Run this program as Administrator' from the Privilege Level.
I had to delete the program folder from my start menu as it was going to the pre installed program which I already deleted. I had to make a new folder. A bit of a hassle but worth it. I had to drag all the shortcuts to this folder and rename them so that I can select it from my start menu. The UAC pops up when I select Word or other. A bit annoying but I can live with that. I was told this is not recommended anyway to turn UAC off for old programs.
Hopefully that this method with also help others who do not want to mess things up.
Is this genuine?
