No SCSI Chips found on the adapter

I need some help on a server that I have (was gifted) and has worked great until now. Its a Dell Poweredge 6400 running 2 15k SCSI drives in raid for the OS and 6 10k SCSI drives in raid 5 for the storage. Recently it took a dump and I cant get it to boot. On boot I get the following error:

Warning! No SCSI chips found on the adapter
firmware failed initialization error code 4001

Before that pops up I can get into the SCSI setup tools. The error pops up after the Raid controller tries to boot up. I can not get into the raid setup. Is this due to the fact that it doesnt think things are connected?

Then it tries a PXE boot and fails and just sits there. Suggestions as to what is wrong with the SCSI hook up? Could it be a cable issue? Is there any other info you would need before you can help?

I really need to gain access to this as I have all my families pictures on here and dont have copies of all of them backed up yet on to another medium. So I need to make sure I dont break the raids so I loose all data.

Help please!!!!!

You might want to update the firmware for the scsi controler, plus upbate the esm ,and the backplain for the server ,you should be able to locate this on the support.dell.com website.failing that if you are using a raid card this might be bad, however you can also try ths power down the server pull the hard drives away from the backplain not completely out of the bay, boot up and see if you are able to go into the scsi bios.if you can there might be an issue with one of the drives. When the server does a pxe boot and fails simply means it is trying to boot,in your boot configuration in the bois your network was set as a option to boot from, not to worry that is something normal when (hard drive) boot device in not available

This is a serious problem and you could easily guess wrong and blow away your data.
Good news is that Dell servers have lifetime support. Without a warranty you will have to pay for any parts you need but, if you are lucky, you won't need any. If you do get the part # from Dell and check eBay for it.
Get the Service Tag from the server and call Dell Technical Support.
You can get the phone # from their website.

How can I find the Windows Server 2008 driver files for the Adaptec CERC SATA1.5/6ch?

OK, EZPZ.
These drivers will install when you first start installing windows 2008 server. You'll see a option that says: Hit F4 for any further drivers needed for windows to install. I think it's F4. You can place these drivers on a thumb drive OR a CD - you must extract the files on to a thumb drive. At the very start of the windows install you'll see the option for additional drivers.

First screen - Success
24930663-deewisxuy4wetc5wzbekciyz-2-1.png
SCSI - Yes, that is correct. Correct, but This isn't a SCSI controller

If you choose the SCSI driver from Dell, on the disk, you won't get...

This screen. This screen means that windows could not find any driver for your drive and there for, you must start over - Same steps.
But make sure you choose the correct driver - you might have to try a few that are in the list.

Greatest of luck - EZPZ
Have a great night..

I have a dell poer edge 6850 server. it shows scsi disk not found. i want to install windows server 2000. what should i do for that?

To install Windows server 2000 on that machine you will need Dell PowerEdge™ Installation and Server Management CD you can download ISO file from this link:

http://search.dell.com/results.aspx?s=gen&c=us&l=en&cs=&k=Dell+PowerEdge+Installation+and+Server+Management+CD&cat=sup&x=6&y=5

P.S.
Burn that ISO file to CD, start installation from that CD and follow instructions it is quite simple.

I have dell 4600 pe serveri want to install Server2003 os i have configured raid 1 on the machine every thing is fine but! on boot process it display message no Boot Device Found Press F1 to continue F2...

The hard drive needs to be set as the first SCSI ID device boot device..
The hard drive needs to have the jumper set to SCSI ID 0, the CD and FDD can be set to SCSI ID 1 and SCSI ID 2. No SCSI devices can have the same SCSI ID number unless it is on a different SCS controller.

Poweredge 1800 server

Hey,

I looked over the spesifications for the poweredge 1800 servers, go ahead, it will work perfectly but there is one problem in the windows XP setup, you will need to insert / load SCSI or SATA drivers for the hard drive With a floppy disk, or if you don't have a floppy drive your going to need to create a custom windows xp setup cd and add the drivers into it so it can start the SCSI or SATA hard drive and finish the install. without the drivers it might not find the hard drive.

Aside from that I don't see any other problems. You should be able to get the drivers, and everything ese from dell site
http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/

Actually I looked over the dell downloads, I see only windows 2000 on the list with windows server 2003, and 2008 and linux distributions.

This could be a 2nd problem, drivers might not be avaialble, or work with xp, but we might be able to get it to work.

So two problems, SCSI or SATA drivers in windows xp / windows 2000 setup

2nd problem is in windows xp drivers, you could try windows 2003's drivers and 2000's and see if they work, if not, then we would have to look for drivers ourselfs from the internet.

So xp might cause headache but we might get it working, windows 2000 seems to be supported perfectly.

Let me know how the project goes
Thanks,
Ekse

Flashing redlight on the front

Yes. Here are some things that could be an issue:

a problem with power supplies, fans, system temperature, or SCSI hard drives.

Install the Dell Open Manager software to run diagnostic. It will tell you what needs to be fixed.

Dell poweredge 1800 scsi drive not found

Hi,
check if the drive is showing in the bios of the server,
shut down the server, take out the power cable, press and hold the power button so as to realease flea power, open the server, and reseat the data cable at both ends and if there is another power cable available in the server swap it with the existing cable plugged into the scsi drive.

and now try to start your server.
