The brew unit can`t move to the right position. This means usually that is full of used grounds and needs to be cleaned. Use your finger and clean out everything stuck inside, and then run the cleaning program. If this doesn`t help, contact your servicecenter, then it may be that the brew unit needs to changed or revised.
We've had this problem with our Impressa E8 twice now. We sent it in for repair in January of 2010...now, less than 12 months later it is hopelessly clogged again. Interestingly, we were just informed today about cleaning of the TAMPING SCREEN. This information does not appear in any of the documentation we have, but the Capresso representative said that it should be cleaned on a weekly basis to prevent clogging. Unfortunately, once the grinding mechanism is stuck the tamping screen is inaccessable. So now we are faced with another $235 repair OR replacement of our 4 year old machine. She also recommended air drying our coffee beans in a bowl before putting them in the machine. We use beans from a local roaster, so they probably have more oil than the grocery store variety. Hope this helps someone.

Thanks "bergend" this worked. I was amazed, I removed used grounds as much as I could and then my husband rapped on the right side of the machine and a round cake of used grounds fell out and thats what was causing it to lock up. I really thought I would have to send this back to Jura Capresso and spend a fortune. You saved the day!!!
