What you're looking for is called "Via Points" as your friend correctly suggested. From the Garmin Nuvi 750 web based information:
nüvi 750 includes advanced navigational features to take the worry out
of traveling. With route planning you can save 10 routes, specify via
points and preview simulated turns on the 750's wide screen. In
addition, nüvi 750 automatically sorts multiple destinations to provide
an efficient route for errands, deliveries or sales calls.
"Alternate routes" are those routes that are created when the nuvi is used with a traffic receiver (FM or MSDN). This allows for a new route to be created with the traffic data so that routes suffering congestion, etc. are avoided. Some people also refer to the routes created when a turn is missed (the GPS indicates "Recalculating") as an "alternate route" but it is not.
Garmin uses the navteq maps same as goggle earth for their devices. If you want a print out of your turns use goggle earth to plan your trip and then print them out.
Hope this helps
There is a software bug Garmin has been working on for a while. The voice file changes to none. To fix go to tools, settings voice and change to desired language. Sometimes the language files get messed uo and need reloaded from webudater, this can be obtained from www.garmin.com. The latest Garmin Software version is 4.80
Hi,
If you go to your languages, in the menu
Check Languages are
(( noted with a person's name ))
these are TTS text to speach voices,
Check they are set correct,
you should be good.
Look under settings>language>voice. Select American English and it will work again. The same thing happened to me this week on my new Garmin 750 and I took a couple of days to figure it out. Hope this helps.
Use 'Where to' to find or enter the place where you now want to go. You should be offered "replace existing destination?" Tell it yes and it will clear out your previous trip and calculate the new one.
You have the USB cable but what software? Have you got the MapSource CD? If not, there's a free and legal workaround. Download the free Garmin Training Center (from Garmin site), open it to check it works, close it then download the Mapsource update file, also from Garmin site. You'll now have MapSource and can uninstall Training Center. You'll need maps though - depending where you are there's some free maps otherwise get a Garmin map to make it easier to plan trips.
I don't know of any Garmin unit that can plan multiple stops. Problem with the Garmin, depending on your current location, it will go either the fastest time route, or the shortest distance. And sometimes, it can take different routes depending on what time of day. Most newer units take traffic into consideration based on time and location. You may want to play with the settings under avoidences.
