I have my TV with dish net and I put the dish remote on mute and have been unable to get it off mute since then. It is showing a small black rectangle box with number 053-0.11. With the dish net I can change channels and get show information but can not turn it off or get any volume.

Make sure the ant. input switch didnt change and check the ant. connections If that dosent work sounds like a defective tuner.

It sounds like the closed captioning background.

Press Menu on the remote
Press Up or Down, Ch + or C- to get to Closed Caption
Press right side button or Vol+ and Mode will be highlighted
Press right button or Vol+ until it says Off on the right hand side of the Menu
Press exit and that should do it.

your closed caption feature is turn on and in the text mode. either turn off the closed captions or change it from text to cc1

Try and turn off the closed captioning. I had the same problem and it turned out that the closed captioning was on t1 instead of OFF. Hope this helps!!!!

go into your menu and find closed caption, someone has accidently set the closed caption mode to text, when the on screen display of channel or volume goes away the box appears. turn off the closed caption feature or switch it to something other than "text" mode, and your box will go away.
