Locked keyboard

Examine your keyboard to ensure your "Number Lock" key is not activated.

This activation is indicated by the key being lit up.

If the key is activated, press it to deactivate the lock.

The number lock key will deactivate an entire segment of your keyboard

Start, click Run, and type regedit to open the Windows registry editor.

In the registry, open the below folders.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\
Control Panel\
Keyboard\

Within the keyboard folder, you should have a string value named "InitialKeyboardIndicators" with a value of 0, 1, or 2. Below is the explanation of each of these values.

0 = Num Lock is turned OFF after the logon.
1 = Disable Num Lock.
2 = Numlock is turned ON after the logon.

On most laptops there is a function key that will lock the keyboard.

You would need to pres the [Fn] key and the appropriate [F#] key. In mine the combination

would be [Fn+F1] keys. If you shut down to re-activate the keyboard you will loose whatever you are working on.

hope this helps

I password my laptop (samsung R510) and one of the key I used is not working and I got an external USB keyboard by the keyborad is not working with, what will I do to used the external keyboard

your USB keyboard may not work because your laptop has not got to the point of initiating USB at the point of booting to password.
You could try using ascii codes to eneter the key
at the point where you need to enter the key that doesnt work press your numlock button this will turn some of your letters into numbers...they should be written on the keys in a different colur...the laptop Im looking at at the moment has 4 on U, 5 on I 6 on O, 1 on J etc...
hopefully these are not the broken key..
if you look here you will see the chart that says A=65 B=66 etc in order
http://www.asciitable.com/

find the letter you need eg v=118 in lower case
type in your password till you get to the v (if thats the broken letter)
press and hold [ALT] button with num lock on and on your newley formed number pad type in the number thet represent the letter in this case 118 when you release the [ALT] key it will insert that letter.
however this only works with an extended keypad (like a full size keyboard) where the numbers are seperate not your top row numbers which is why you need your numlock on.

if it does then work maybe you could go into your bios and turn USB legacy support on...which may then help your full size keyboard to work too.

I have a Panasonic Toughbook CF-18. The keyboard

Connect an external keyboard to your laptop. If the external keyboard works properly that means the keyboard of your laptop is defective and you have to replace it. If you get the same problem with the external keyboard reinstall your operating system (it could be a virus).

Keyboard keys that have purple numbers are locked. Can't type.

Your "Num Lock" is on.
Look for the num lock key (it's similar to the "caps lock" key in function)
If the "num lock" is blue, you may have to hold a blue "fn" key when you press num lock

There's is probably a light at the top of the keyboard that'll tell you when num lock is on.

Apostrophes key in laptop keyboard is not working, how do I fix it?

It's possible there is a mechanical problem with that key (broken, dirty).

But just in case you also use a usb keyboard with the laptop make sure that you did not disconnect (the usb keyboard) with the number lock engaged. If so you can either use the virtual keyboard to disengage the number lock or reconnect the usb keyboard and disengage the number lock. Then check if the problem is fixed when the usb keyboard is disconnected.

Acer aspire 3003wcli keyboard stopped responding

You probably activated the "Num Lock" accidently. Just hold down the FN and look for the key that says "num lock" Now you should have your keyboard back and the numbers will just type when you hit the numbers key. I did this to myself yesterday!
