As from your question I can say that you are only using windows default copying service. First of all you must try copying the data using some third party softwares such as Ashampoo or Nero. You can try to burn a CD/DVD image with it or simply try to write data using these softwares. Dell has been suspected of having this problem in few cases, so DVD RW drive might also be faulty. Also, there is this microsoft page which can be useful: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=316529

I have a Dell Dimension E510 that has a Phillips DVD+RW DVD8801. Windows Media Player will not recognize my burner?

You can solve this problem by updating your driver firmware, dell even recommends it. i have posted a link to the appropriate dell page with the new firmware below. you may also have to restart your computer and/or re-install windows media player for this fix, but update the firmware first. I hope i was helpful.

My Phillips RW-DVD8801 does not see the CDs or DVDs installed in my dell Dimension 3100

Hello franchusyl
If possible , test it on another computer . If it does not work , it's defective and you will have to replace it if out of warranty .

Burner not recognising blank dvd-r disks error reports disk not compatible or unreadable ? Kodak DVD-R 16X 4.7GB 120 mins

Check the manufacturer's web-site:

http://support.dell.com

for the latest 'firmware" (software that runs inside the DVD-burner) for the DVD-burner. The newest firmware should recognize more & newer media.

DVD-RW will not record. Using Memorex DVD-RW and get the "Incorrect disc C104" message. Where can I get the correct disc and what are they? these used to work, but the new ones don't.

I have the same machine and I've used Memorex DVD-RW 2X/4.7gb/120min dvd's for a long time. The newer ones at Officemax are 4x, 8x, 16x and 52x they won't work. I think they have to be 2x only!!!

I want to upgrade from cd rw to dvd/cd rw

For thing like DVD burner drives, Windows XP/Vista offer universal support, meaning that it won't matter that you own a Dell computer, you can buy any DVD drive and it will work.

I recommed the following for $51. It also comes with software to support burning DVDs, just in case your current software does not offer this feature.

Burning dvd data

its telling you that the dvd are not being closed, do you wait until the computer tells you its finished before you eject the disk, most lite on dvd's will eject themselves when done.
