if you turn the e100 on, make sure the computer registers that it is connected, and you should see somthing on the screen of the e100 that shows it is connected and charging. It should charge both on and off, and it will charge if the computer is in 'sleep' mode but will not charge if the computer is off
That might be a blessing in disguise. I have never liked the non-MSD option, but I tolerate it. You should be able to transfer and view files with the computer recognizing it as an MSD device. If you insist on changing it, use the iRiver plus 3 software from iRiver's website to update the firmware on the player, and your computer will no longer treat it as a Mass Storage Device - don't say I didn't warn you.
umm.. this is what i did to solve this problem. i hooked it in the back usb port then put the iriver disk in then went to start control panel printers and other hardware the on the left side add hardware the i found it on the list and instaled after that you have to use windows meda player to add music and it works just fine .
