My Magtag Ensignia does not spin

The washer does not spin but when pressure is put on the top of the agitator then it spins. However, when the pressure is taken off the agitator it spins for a little bit but then it stops. What could I do to solve the problem?

Sorry but all the dogs do is make both pieces of your agitator turn in one direction but not the other. If they are bad the top part of your agitator will not work correctly.
There is a clutch on the bottom of your Maytag, You will need to adjust it to make it spin. It's real tricky and detailed. Long story short. You will need a set of allen wrenches to loosen the bolt in the center that holds the cam on the bottom of the shaft. Tilt your machine back. Look in the center of the shaft, you should see a plastic cap. Pry it off. You then should see a allen head screw. Take it out being careful not to let the piece (Cam) move that it is holding on. Now ease the cam away from the shaft until you can turn it counter clock wise. Only turn it about 1/10th turn. It will not take much from what you stated earlier. I would say if you think about a clock face hour hand. Turn it one hour back or counter clock wise. Put ellen screw back and tighten. Replace the cap and sit your washer down. You should be good to go.

Just had a similiar problem a couple weeks ago. There are some small parts in the agitator called "dogs". Here is a picture:

The "dogs" are the 4 small parts in the lower right. They need replaced. It can a little tricky but they are relatively inexpensive. Mine were $6.

I'm trying to fix my top loader washing machine. Maytag ensignia. It is not agitating the cloths correctly. Like it is not catching. The arm might not be set. Or it is off. Any one with help

MOST LIKELY THE CAM DOGS?

No agitation or spin? try these:

WATER PRESSURE SWITCH: This switch keeps your washer from overflowing. It is responsible for shutting off the power to the fill valve and redirects the power to the timer to start the washing machine running once the correct water level has been reached. Meter check ur water pressure switch?
You can test it with a meter and with a manual test? ( first locate it in the panel, it has a plastic clear tube hose going into it, remove that tube from its connection, now put another small tube or hose into the slot where it was and have the machine set to wash cycle with water in it. Blow into the other end of the tube.
If the machine starts to wash. the pressure switch is more than likely good
( No wash starts - then THE DIAPHRAGM IS BAD AND SWITCH HAS TO BE REPLACED) another test u can do is Remove the hose and submerge in water. Seal one end and blow air into the other end and look for bubbles. Check for an obstruction in the hose as well.
Or take the original hose tube and plug one end and blow into it AT the other end, it should be hard and have pressure, if it is easy to blow and u dont feel any pressure and it feels like the air is going out ?
Sometimes they get busted open or a pin hole and release air causing the water switch diaphragm to not open.

Motor Coupling If the washer won't spin or agitate the motor coupling might have failed. The motor coupling connects the motor to the washer transmission. It is designed to fail if the washer is overloaded in order to protect both the motor and
Drive Belt If the washer won't spin or agitate, check the drive belt. If the belt is broken or if it isn't tight on the pulleys the washer won't spin or agitate properly.

Drive Motor If the washer won't spin or agitate the drive motor might be defective. This is not common. Check all of the other related parts to this symptom before replacing the motor. If the motor is visibly burned out or physically damaged, replace it.

Stator Assembly If the washer won't spin or agitate the stator assembly might be burned out. The stator is essentially one half of a motor, it interacts with the tub by creating a strong electro-magnet. If the stator burns out the washer won't spin or agitate. Check the stator for continuity. This part is often misdiagnosed.

Transmission or clutch assembly not engaging due to going out or slipping.

Door or Lid Latch Assembly If the washer won't spin or agitate the lid switch assembly might be defective. This is a very common problem. The lid switch assembly can fail either mechanically or electrically. Test any electrical switches with an Ohm meter for continuity. The switches should have continuity according to their design.

Door Lock Motor and Switch Assembly If the washer won't spin or agitate the door lock assembly should be checked. The door lock can fail either mechanically or electrically. Test any switches on the door lock with an Ohm meter. The switches should have continuity according to their design.

Motor Control Board If the washer won't spin or agitate the motor control board might be defective. The motor control board provides power to the motor as well as direction and force. If the motor control board is defective the washer may not work at all or function properly.

CHECK THE CAM DOGS INSIDE THE AGITATOR, AS THEY WILL HINDER THE AGITATION PROCESS. However in G.E models the cam dogs are replaced with what is called an agitator coupler. (located at bottom of tub)
Remember to check the agitator spline as well for worn broken teeth.

Washer wont agitate, pops breaker

Could be the gears/transmission for the agitate cycle are jammed, the motor then freezers, creates an overload and the breaker pops.

My Maytag Ensignia is filling with water then stopping. If I manually move it through the cycle it does nothing. Won't spin or drain. There is no noise when it goes to the agitate or spin cycle (as if it...

f the lid switch is defective, your washer can't spin and may not function at all. The switch is inside the washing machine main housing near the door frame. Often you have to raise or open the top or front of the washer to get to the switch. If it's defective, you need to replace it. You will need a putty knife to release the clips located of the front corners of the of the lid. If you look along the seam of the top and the front panel, just near the corners, you will see them. Just push in on the clips and lift the top to access the switch. Here is a link to the part.

Motor seems to run but won't agitate or spin.

Dont take it apart you dont know enough to do that safeky!
It could be the pressure switch and or hose. Put that to a local techo and see what he offers to charge to fix it.

My Maytag Ensignia washer is not spinning well. It bangs side to side with even the smallest loads. It seems like something is loose. Is this something I can fix myself or do I need a repair mans help....

Try leveling the washer... If the washer is level, then don't wrap the clothes around the agitator...drop the clothes straight in, on top of each other evenly around the agitator. The Ensignia washer has a Dual action agitator... That means the clothes roll over them selves, instead of moving side to side, as with a traditional agitator. wrapping the clothes around the agitator will cause the load to be un balanced and then cause the "banging" noise... this should take care of the problem...

Spin cycle not working properly

On the transmission there are two shift arms. One shift arm controls the agitator and the other shifts to spin the cloths. If the washer has been making a "clicking" sound when it trys to spin, the solenoid that shifts the spin shift arm is not catching and the drum will not spin. The other possibility is the spin clutch is slipping and make a "grinding/ratcheting" sound. Neither, unfortunately are inexpensive to fix.
If you can describe the sound and when it occurs, I might be able to get closer.
Let me know.

Agitator free spins

Remove the top cap on the agitator and see if the bolt has come loose. If it is not there, the agitator will come loose from the gear case shaft and free spin.

Washing machine will spin on the spin cycle

aggitator? Does it sound like it is? I would put a flat head in the door switch in activiate the cycle "as if it is running" put some weight on the aggitator, see if you can feel it moving while your weight is on it.

Grinding niose from agitator.

If the fill and drain functions correctly, AND the spin cycle works correctly, AND the cycle itself starts and completes correctly, the problem being that the back and forth motion of the agitator starts the loud grinding noise, it will likley be broken gears in the transmission. The single most expensive part in the washing machine.
