Just click stat-- then settings--- then printer and faxes--then on left side you will see the add printer option.there you just click NEXT-- NEXT option.and you will get to select the printer from the list.the basic printers are already loaded in the windows network.you just select the proper printer model.first select brand that is HP then select modelthat is 640.if by chance 640 is not listed you select only hp desk jet.keep your printer connected to pc this will solve the problem of drivers.

Toshiba Portege M400-S4031 Windows XP replaced hard drive SATA used restore cd from Toshiba after loading setup screen says finished and to restart but when restarted computer error (can not find hard...

.Thats because your restore cd does not contain the Sata driver. Go to toshiba site and find the sata driver. You will need a floppy drive (a usb one would be good). Burn the driver to a floppy and load it into the drive. Now when you start to install the restore cd at some point near the beginning you will need to tap F6 (it tells you at the bottom of the screen) which tells xp to look at the floppy. It will install the driver and continue installing xp. simples??

About harddisk

If this is a newer system, this issue is the XP CD you are using doesn't have the needed hard drive controller driver it needs to see the Hard Drive.

Because this is Windows XP, you have only 2 options to resolve the issue. XP will only load a controller driver during install from one of 2 locations. Either a floppy diskette drive or from the XP Cd itself. XP has controller drivers for most systems available at the time the CD was burned, but newer systems, especially ones with SATA hard drives do not have supported drivers in XP CD images. You options are as follows:
  1. Connect a USB Floppy Diskette drive to the system, download the needed driver (If one is available) copy the extracted driver files to the root directory of a floppy diskette and put the diskette in the Floppy drive, then boot the XP CD again. The driver should load automatically if the floppy is in A: Drive when you boot to the CD.
  2. The second option requires slipstreaming the driver (Same one downloaded to a floppy in 1) into the XP image. (This takes a good bit of knowledge in bootable cd creation)
If all this seems to be quite the hassle, then install Vista,

Have a HP DV9500 laptop and I am trying to remove Windows Vista and install windows xp. When I get to the blue screen to start the install it says it can not locate my hard drive and the only option...

Hi.

I will explain you the issue.

The notebook is preinstalled with a SATA hard drive which needs seperate drivers to be installed inorder to get the hard drive detected. The drivers for the SATA can be installed only by using a floppy drive. As the notebook does not have a floppy drive installed, we can either try disabling the SATA native support in BIOS or install the drivers with the help of a USB floppy drive.

If the USB floppy drive is not available, you have the alternative steps to install the SATA driver.
Please refer the following link to install SATA driver without the USB floppy drive:

http://www.scribd.com/doc/4864999/sata

or

http://cid-3a2fd42defd10b67.skydrive.live.com/self.aspx/Public/sata.pdf

If you have the Floppy drive you can install the SATA driver.

Just follow the below procedure:
Download the SATA driver:

ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp37001-37500/sp37005.exe

1. Download the driver to a directory on your hard drive.

2. Execute the downloaded file and follow the on-screen instructions. A diskette containing the driver is created, and the driver files are also made available at c:\swsetup\sp37005. If you choose to cancel diskette creation, you will need to copy the driver files to the chosen media.

Installation Instructions:

NOTE: A USB diskette (floppy) drive is required to use this driver. If an external USB diskette drive is used, ensure that it is plugged into the system before starting Step 1.

1. Insert the operating system CD, and Power On the notebook to boot
from the CD.

2. At the very beginning of the operating system installation, the following prompt is displayed at the bottom of the screen:

"Press F6 if you need to install a SCSI or RAID driver...."

When the prompt is displayed, press F6.

3. Later in the operating system installation, you are notified that a mass storage device could not be detected. When this notification occurs, press S (S=Specify Additional Device).

4. When prompted, insert the diskette that was created from the SoftPaq file, and then press Enter.

5. Select "Intel 82801HEM/HBM SATA AHCI Controller (Mobile ICH8M-E/M)" and press Enter.

NOTE: At this point, the following prompt MAY be displayed, depending on the version of your operating system CD. If the prompt is displayed, press Enter to use the default Windows driver and continue, if it is not displayed, continue with Step 6. The prompt reads as follows:

Windows already has a driver that you can use for
"Intel 82801HEM/HBM SATA AHCI Controller (Mobile ICH8M-E/M)".

Unless the device manufacturer prefers that you use the driver on the floppy disk, you should use the driver in Windows.

S=use the driver on floppy ENTER=use the default Windows driver

6. Continue with the operating system installation, as prompted.

NOTE: If a problem is encountered when using the external USB floppy drive, refer to Microsoft Knowledge Base Article 916196: "A connected USB floppy disk drive does not work when you press F6 to install mass storage drivers during the Windows XP installation process."

How to install window XP without floppy disk on asus P5RD1-VM

Hi sheikhun, just ignore windows F6 to add special SATA drivers. Install windows, when finished use your Asus CD and install missing drivers from CD. Than run windows updates.
You should not have a problem, if while in your bios your SATA drive is shown in the main menu. Than check the Boot section of bios. The boot order should be.
CDROM drive 1st. SATA drive 2nd.
Disconnect any other hard drives data cable while installing windows. When you finish installing windows & installing the drivers from the CD & windows updates you can shut down the PC & reconnect the data cables you may have disconnected.

If your bios does not see your serial ATA SATA drive than your SATA onboard controller is defective. Return to Asus for replacement/repair.
