Just wanted to know what is a decent weight for the tonearm for a numark ttusb turntable, it says 3 grams but i read in reviews by people saying that is too heavy, i dont wanna wear down the needle or ruin my records.
also i hear that the stylus that comes with the turntable is just generic and im lookin for a good replacement needle or a better one that will fit into the ttusb headshell, or should i just get a new headshell? what other headshells will work?
and last, what level is a good sound for the turntable with the gain knob on the back
thanks i appreciate any help and tips.
Most good turntables will track with weights between 1.25 and 1.5 grams. Any more than that and you are putting alot of pressure on the needle. Experiment a bit and make sure that the needle tracks well and that the sound is good. The less weight you use, the longer the needle will last and the less wear on the record.

Make a note of the tracking force setting.
Make sure the turntable is level.
Unplug the power to the turntable.
Using the tonearm elevation control, raise the tonearm.
Manually move the tonearm in toward the platter.
Manually rotate the platter ClockWise a few turns to disengage any cueing mechanisms.
Set the Stylus Pressure/Tracking setting to 0.
Disengage the tonearm elevation control. The tonearm will either float or drop. This is why we have no power, just in case it hits the platter.
Adjust the counterweight until the tonearm floats exactly horizontal. Use the flat portion of the tonarm rest as a gauge.
Return the tonearm to its rest.
Dial in the prescribed tracking force on the Stylus Pressure/Tracking control. Play records.
