I have the same problem but LG says they will not fix it as indicated below. When I work the switches manually the fan starts but the lights stay on. Is there any way to determine if the problem is in the switches or the control board? I assume the switches are cheap, the control board not so much. Thanks

There is a switch on the inside of your frige that has gone bad. The switch is a slide type switch so when you open or close the door it makes the switch slide in and out, making the light come on and off. You need to write down the make and model # of your refrigerator and order a new switch either from the manufacturer or from the place you bought it. Once you have the new switch, unplug the refrigerator, take a flat head screw driver and gently pry the switch from the interior face, pull the two wires off and replace the old switch with the new. The switch is very inexpensive and very easy to replace. Calling a service technician out to do this could cost you more than you expect. If you are not very "mechanicaly enclinded" then just order the switch and have a brother, neihbor, or someone that is mechanicaly savy come over and fix it for you. It should not even take 5 minutes. ;-)

If the switch is turning the light on and off when done manually then the door must not be hitting the switch when closing the door. Check the point where the door would hit the switch and make sure the door is making good contact with the switch.

Even though I have found a statement (I think it was in the LG troubleshooting FAQS on line) that the lights will shut off after a period of time to prevent the problem you encountered, I have heard of this problem enough times to worry about it. So I replaced the 60 watt bulbs in my refrigerator with 25 watt appliance bulbs just in case. They provide more than enough light and do not get as hot when on. It took a while to find them. They are made by Philips and were at Home Depot but not always in stock.

I had the same problem. It is a known problem with the switch and the electronic board. LG will replace it all and fix it for free. Call LG!

Reduce risk of overheating and plastic melting if lights stay on

Even though I have found a statement (I think it was in the LG2.gif troubleshooting2.gif FAQS on line) that the lights in the newer LFX25960 french door/bottom freezer refrigerator will shut off after a period of time to prevent overheating and melting the plastic housing, I have heard of this problem enough times to worry about it. Refrigerator light stays on ?

LG has a wonderful way of turning on their refrigerator lights, they have the control board do it. Very nicely done in theory but in reality I would trust a handy door switch to control the light on/off function then a relay that get's stuck. That's right, the relay is stuck on the control board. Pull light bulbs out quickly before plastic melts on the inside top panel of fridge. Call LG, it should be covered under warranty.

Lights stay on in fridge

HI. The door switch will be the culprit here.

The interior light in most refrigerators, and the fan in some, are controlled by a door switch. When the door is closed, the switch is depressed and the interior light goes off and the fan resumes normal operation. If the door is misaligned or the switch malfunctions, the refrigerator may become warm as a result of the non-operation of the evaporator fan and the heat generated by the interior light. Test the switch for continuity using a multimeter. Set the multimeter to the ohms setting X1. Place a probe on each terminal. The multimeter should change from a reading of infinity to zero when the probes touch the terminals. With the probes still touching the terminals depress the switch, the reading should change back to infinity. If it does not pass both of these tests, the switch should be replaced.

LG Design defect - Light stayed on and melted the fridge.

yes, contact LG for this known problem. it's a circuit board defect. the tech should replace both bulbs w/lower wattage, plastic bulb lens, lens surround and bulb sockets themselves. be sure to have your fridge model # and serial # handy.
