The flash on my Casio EX-Z1000 stopped working. The operation lamp flashes amber then red. My camera won't take a photo while in flash mode. I have to turn off the flash before it will take a photo.

Sounds like a burn out, or a bad lamp. The flash is subjected to a huge jolt of electricity each time it fires, and breaks easily, especially when hot. If you are taking many flash photos, you should stop after 15 or so, to let the flash unit cool.
Good luck with Casio, if you are still under warranty. It will probably mean mailing them the camera for fixing, or replacing. Sometimes you can take it back to where you bought it for repair.

At back camera, have lamp flashes orange where to indicate flash is charging and to tell image will not recorded(disable). You will can not take another flash until that lamp is stop flashing orange to indicate charging is full. in other view, please check at lcd screen have appear flash icon. click button play mode to display menu. change set flash to on if flash icon is not display
I have a casio exilim ex-z60 which I bought 2 yrs ago. I've had problems with my flash going off each time I turned on and off the camera, about 5 months ago. Now the flash does not work. Need help on how to restore the flash bulb or battery in the camera.
I do not know the solution to your problem but I can tell you that when the camera is working properly that amber light means the flash is chargeing or your camera is doing something like saveing a picture so if your battery is low your flash might not charge properly or your camera might have something wrong with is memory. Try resetting your camera. Sometimes it is just an issue with the flash charging.
In rec mode press menu
go to setup tab
go up to reset
press right arrow
highlight reset
press set
If that doesn't work then u will have to send it in. :)
