its a red light, u hold the dvd and the top power thing till it turns on ( for dvd ) press play to auto search for the codes, and rewind to turn it back on , sometimes u need to go past the working code to find a better system, ( i mean the first code that turns it off might not be the right one, keep trying) and stop to store the code
