Iron will not stay on more than 5 minutes. Tried shaking it and re-plugging it but that mostly doesn't work

Is it a newer iron? Newer versions of irons shut off after a period of inactivity--a safety feature. If it shuts off while you are using it, then it has a malfunction.

I was given a Rowenta Effective with no instruction booklet and I can't get it to work properly. When I turn it on it gets hot but soon after that bottom light goes out and the auto off light blinks

If you start ironing with it, does it come back on? It usually doesn't take long for auto-shut-off irons to turn themselves off--a few minutes in the upright postion, and about 30 seconds if left sitting in the down position. Once you start the ironing motion, it should come back on.

My iron has stopped heating up although lights still flashing and stop to tell me it's heated but still cold

Soak the base in vinegar and water for two hours, shake it and see the junk come out. Repeat with fresh vinegar and water. Leave the iron in the airing cupboard overnight to dry out internal condensation. Next day half fill iron with vinegar and water leave two hours, empty. Plug in it will likely heat up again so put water in the iron and heat it up then unplug use the calc clean and shake it over the sink

Shortage in my cord

Time to change the cord!! And stop pulling it out of the socket by the cord, pull it out by the plug itself

Cord seem loose - iron keeps shutting off - jiggling cord gets it started again - need to do this to get iron going.

Try re-tightening the wires at the plug and on the iron, but if this does not solve the problem ,replace the cable. You should be able to get it from your local hardware.

Hope this has helped you

Rowenta DM880 Auto shutoff - Shuts off too frequently

This is a problem with a lot of Rowenta irons. It is the auto shut off that is not working properly and the only way to fix it is to have it disassembled and the switch hardwired to be on whenever the iron it plugged in. It is a thermal metal switch and it just stops working and then the iron will not turn on and the yellow light blinks.
