The battery compartment is along the left edge of the camera on the side nearest the lens. You will see some ridges along that side. Place your thumb on the ridges and slide the cover up toward the top of the camera. Once it slides up about 1/4 inch it will open on a hinge.
Disconnect the camera from the computer. About the only thing you can do with the camera when connected to a computer is to transfer pictures and videos from the camera to the computer.
