SOURCE: no 'green' light on bacl of my 'old' Vivitar 285

Then I'd say it's a reasonably sure thing that the green light is just burned out, The lights are supposed to be off at first, then red when there's a partial charge, then green when there's a full charge, then flashing between red and green when the "battery saver" kicks in. If you're seeing off, then red, then off, then flashing red, then that means everything in the charging circuit is working perfectly, there's just no green light.

SOURCE: Dell latitude D600 battery charge light flashing

You have a ground fault issue in the DC JACK.

There are escentially 4 circuits in the jack and one is not making contact.

1: Negative Charge circuit (outter ring)
2: Negative Run circuit (outter ring)
3 Positive (Inner Ring)
4: Signal (center pin)

I believe the negative charge circuit (outter ring) is not making contact internally. Typically what happens on that model DC Jack is the tension contact metal becomes fatigued, and does not touch the outter ring.

This could come from Heat causing early fatigue of the metal.
Or normal wear, the metal has simply worn out from regular insert/removal.

That usually indicates battery is beginning to go bad. Eventually it will not hold a charge and will need to be replaced.

SOURCE: How to charge my creative zen mp3 player

Just connect your Zen onto your PC (NOT LAP TOP) on a USB.
If does not start charging (you´ll see arrow and pause/ play buttons flashing slowly) then you need to RESET your ZEN.
How to reset: You´ll find a tiny little hole by on/off button on the side. With ZEN connected to the PC USB or onto wall charger try turning ZEN on, it doesen´t matter if it turns on or not. Then insert a sowing pin or office paper clip end in this reset hole for a few seconds and release. Give it a couple of seconds and see the lights go off onto charging mode. LEAVE IT CHARGING for 24 hours. Make sure your PC will NOT turn itself on safe mode or hibernates in this period, it has to be ON for charging, at all times.
This is it.

I charged my swimP3 but it won't turn on when disconnected from the computer.

The Swimp3 Player does need to be charged for at least 3 hours for the best experience. Here are some tips that could help solve your problem:

Problem: The player doesn't turn on.

Suggestion: Charge the battery in the player for at least three hours, this will allow it to fully charge. You can charge it by plugging it into the USB port on your computer or by using a USB wall charger (sold separately). If you do choose to use a computer to charge it, be sure your computer is turned on. If there is no power to the computer, then no power is going to the USB port to charge the Swimp3 player.

Additional Tip: The charging answers are in the Green Indicator Light.

If the green light is flashing off and on, then your SwiMP3 player is charging

If the light is solid green, the SwiMP3 player is fully charged

If you have no green light - then it is not receiving a charge - check the connection, make sure its plugged in properly, or check to see that there is power from the computer or USB wall charger.

Problem: I have charged my player, the light is solid green, but no music plays.

Suggestion 1: Have you loaded music onto the player? Try adding a few mp3 or wma files and test it again.

Suggestion 2: If the power is on, you loaded music, clicked the Play button and no music comes out, press and hold the RESET button for 4 seconds. It's kind of like rebooting your computer when it crashes. Many times a simple reset clears up any challenges.

If that doesn't work, then it could be the

* volume

* incompatible files or

* folders

Volume: On some units the factory volume setting is very low.

Solution: Try turning up the volume by pressing and holding the "+" PLUS button. If you click the "+" button it changes the song, pressing and holding the button will actually control the volume. And if its too loud, press and hold the "-" MINUS button to bring the volume back down.

Incompatible Music Files: If you have loaded a music file that is not compatible, it simply won't play. The SwiMP3 player works with mp3 or wma files, but not aac (like from iTunes).

Solution: Remove the incompatible files. Convert your other music files to mp3 or wma, and if you are importing your songs direct from itunes, you'll need to convert them to mp3s first.

Incompatible NON-Music Files: An MP3 player is similar to a Thumb Drive or Flash Drive because it can hold any kind of file that will fit in the drive's capacity. However, if you have loaded an incompatible file - including JPEGs, Cover Art, Word Docs, anything that is not an MP3 or WMA file, the player simply can't translate it into music.

Solution: Remove the incompatible files, leaving only your mp3 or wma files in your root directory.

Folders: The mp3 player is not able to open folders and play music files stored inside, to the Swimp3 player the folder is simply an un-playable file.

Solution: Open the folders, move or copy the music files into the root directory (remember, mp3 or wma - not aac), then delete the folders.

Finis SwimP3 charging but not listed on removable disk drive.

Cyn,

Generally the computer should recognize the Swimp3 Player just like it would a flash drive or thumb drive. Remove the drive from your USB Port, press and hold the RESET button for 4 seconds and then try again.

That will usually clear up any hiccups you're having with the swimp3 player.

Plug it back in and look in My Computer again. On my Windows PC with XP it pops up and asks what I want to do with the drive.

After Resetting, you may also want to try it on a second computer to see if it is recognized. If it isn't working then, it could be the electronics, and your gift giver can check with the place where it was purchased.

I hope this helps.

I plug in my player into the USB port, nothing happens.no light

If you get no light at all, it could be that the Swimp3 Player isn't plugged in properly. Try unplugging it and plugging it back in.

If you're plugging into a USB Hub, be sure the hub is on.

Depending on the Model of the Swimp3 - one of the older models would allow you to plug the USB in upside down - newer models do not. So I would also verify that.

The next step would be to press and hold the RESET button for 4 seconds - most other hiccups are cleared up with that.

If those steps don't work, I would contact the retailer where you made the purchase - your Finis player comes with a 90 day manufacturers warranty.

Good Luck

I haven't used my swimp3 for more than a year. The light indicating that it's charging is on but it doesn't play. Help please

The first thing I would check is to be sure you have music on the drive. It is like a flash drive, so it could be at some point without being charged or used that that the memory has been erased.

Plug it into your computer and open up the drive to verify your music. Be sure you only load MP3 Files or WMA Files - AAC (like in iTunes won't play unless they are converted to MP3 files).

You may also want to try pressing and holding the RESET button, it's like a REBOOT for the drive.

Next, be sure you haven't put the music in folders, they need to be in the root directory.

Last, be sure you have only mp3 or wma files - doc files, album art, or any other file type isn't playable and gives you a blank sound.

We hope this solves your Swimp3 problem.

Will not play

This happened to me as well.
I did a quick FAT not FAT32 quick format and copied ONLY mp3 files to the player and it worked.

So I had two problems. Wrong format, because I messed with it. And I had AV files and not mp3 files. It appears that my player only read mp3 format from FAT file system.
