SOURCE: will not power up when network cable attached

There is a Wake On LAN support on netvista 6792
and possibly this may be the reason

First, go into your BIOS, find the PnP hardware settings and disable Wake-on-LAN (it may be in a different category depending on your BIOS).

Ps2 powers up, but disc is not spinning and

Following could be the reasons for not spinning any PS2 disc:
  • A dirty laser. Try cleaning the laser and see if it helps. If you can see crust or dust covering the laser eye, it may not be strong enough to read anything at all. If the laser looks clean, this is probably not the issue.

  • An unplugged laser cable. These things normally do not come out by themselves, but if you opened the ps2 that was spinning OK to clean the laser and/or removed the laser to clean it, plugged it in, now it's spinning 1/2 of a turn, the laser cable may not be in securely. If it is in securely, make sure it is plugged into the motherboard end properly.
  • A dead laser. On models 30001, 35001, and some 30001R, this is the most likely issue. These models are old and the original lasers were a bit unreliable.

No Spin At All If your spindle hub is NOT SPINNING AT ALL, NOT EVEN 1/2 OF A TURN, it may be bad or unplugged. A tell tale sign of it being unplugged is if you hit eject, the laser moves down the rail, and starts grinding because the PS2 keeps trying to move it down the rail even though it hit the end. There's a small switch on the spindle hub that tells the unit to stop pushing the laser because it's reached the end. Spindle hubs usually do not go bad by themselves, usually either the PS2 too a bad fall and it became bent [try spinning it by hand], or someone the cable out and put it in too many times [or incorrectly] and the silver contacts on the cable were detached.

I went and bought new ram for my computer. it's an IBM desktop. type 6792. a pc133 512MB sdram. my computer will not pick it up. how do i get the computer to pick up the ram? it is the right kind of ram?

I checked at http://www.buffalotech.com/products/memory/select/select-dimm/ and according the the memory configurator there your IBM Netvista 6792 takes this type of memory which can be ordered from them PC-133mhz SDRAM DIMM 168 pin, it indicated that your pc has 3 slots for memory and the maximum size you can put in each slot is 512 MB which would give you the maximum memory of 1536 MB. I have had problems in the past when replacing memory in IBM PC's some modules won't work because IBM uses different memory than other Manufacturers. But give Buffalo a try, their memory is guaranteed.

Video display driver

It's not your driver. It's the video cable from the computer to the monitor.

Move it around at both ends and your colour will return to normal.

Either replace the cable or find where it is happy and then hold it in that position with something.

It's a common fault to all monitor cables..and nearly always the red wire.
