How to replace the power steering pump on a 2001 dodge caravan sport

Hi Robert, glad to help! First you need to remove the fluid from the pump reservoir. Second remove the belt from the pulley. Third remove the pressure hose and the return hose from the pump. Forth there are holes in the pulley so you can move the holes to gain access to the 3 bolts that holds the pump to the block, remove those three bolts. Then you'll need a pump pulley removal tools, because the new pump almost never has the pulley on it, so you'll need to remove the pulley and put it on the new pump. You'll need to hold the pulley from turning while removing it. If you don't have these tools and know a mechanic have them do it for you it will be faster. If you want to do it yourself you may be able to rent the pulley and installer tools at autozone or some other store. When you have installed the pump back on the engine and installed the belp and hoses. Make sure after filling it with fluid to start the engine turn the wheel back and forth, and fill it again, you may need to do this several times until all the air is out of the system and it stops whinning. Hope this helps and have an awesome day Robert.

How to replace the power steering pump

If it's a 3.0 from underneath,if a 3.3 or 3.8 you can access the pump from the passenger side, remove the air filter box and the side splash shield to get serpentine belt off,you will need to get to the pressure line on pump under van (16mm) remove the supply hose on top of pump, through the top and through the pulley holes 3 bolts hold it to the bracket (13mm deep)the bottom one may give you trouble as it is a tight area with the ac lines that run close by,remove them by hand with the socket on the bolt, slide pump slightly to the rear and up to remove, press the pulley off & on to new one then reverse what you did to get it out.

Drive belt noise on a 2001 caravan 3.3, smoke coming from area when i started it up, turned it off quickly

Check all of the pulleys along the belt line and verify they are all moving. This is usually indicitive of a seized pulley (i.e. Alternator, power steering, smog pump, etc.)

How to replace a powersterling pulley on 1999 dodge grand caravan

The procedure to remove the power steering pulley out of the 1999 dodge caravan engine is as follows:----

· First disconnect the black, negative cable from the battery.

· Then Take off the windshield wiper module.

· Raise the front of the vehicle using a jack.

· Then from underneath the vehicle remove the drive belt splash shield .

· Locate the power steering pump bracket and--working from underneath the car--loosen the through bolt; then remove the pressure hose routing bracket.

· Place a catch pan on the floor, underneath the power steering pump fluid reservoir, and siphon as much steering fluid from the tank; then remove the pressure and fluid supply hoses from the pump.

· Take off the rear pump mounting bolt and front mounting bolts through the pulley. Make sure to grab and keep the spacer located between the pump and mounting bracket once you remove the bolts.

When turning at a slow speed the steering gets hard on my 2001 Dodge Caravan. This only happens occasionally.

This is due to a worn belt or worn tensioner pulley. If that's not the problemthen you have a power steering pump going out or steering gear box going bad.
