I've noticed ghosts or shadows around images on my hitachi 50v500 lcd . I was wondering if it could be my dish net receiver, or something wrong with my actual tv.
I am also experiencing ghost imaging. I am also using a dish net satellite system.I am also experiencing ghost imaging. I am also using a dish net satellite system.

We've had the TV for about 5 years and it has now started showing shadows . Annoying and hard to read the letters. Gives me a headache. Please help. Very frustrating with the TV being only 5 years old. I've had other TV for over 20 years with no problems.

Here is what I suggest----look at lettering and or put the mode to 4X3 which is smaller left and right.
Look at the edges of that picture or lettering on screen---this model sometimes has a ghosting where images have a slight shadow, like with rabbit ears.
If this is the case there is a way with the remote to CORRECT IT.
I have the information--confirm if slight ghosting around letters--it can be white or any color.
There is a specific method for ghost adjustment on the 50v500.
Ghosting is most noticeable on lettering or with the set in the 4X3 format the edges will look somewhat double or have a ghost.
If this is what you have: I have the process which is done with the Hitachi remote to correct this. I got this from Hitachi who published a service bulletin on this problem for this model.
First of all sorry for delay.
can you provide a image of yello shadow.I believe it seems to be technically say "ghost image"
If it is ghost image we can try by entering SERVICE Menu and adjust RGB level of the light engine.
50V500 ONLY GHOST: May be described as "Out of Convergence" but ghost is still attached to main image. CONDITION: A "ghost image" appearing to the left or right of images in the picture. Can be varying shades of a primary color (red, green, or blue) as well as gray. Can easily be seen in the 4 x 3 mode, at the edges of the picture. CORRECTION:
To correct the problem, please do as follows:
Access I2C Menu. (See page 57 of the Service Manual).
To enter the I2C Service Menu, with power off, (on the front control panel) press and hold the INPUT button. Then press the POWER button for two seconds. The following Service Menu will appear.
Figure 1
BEFORE CONTINUING: CONFIRM THAT THE R, G and B DRIVE ARE SET AT 40.
Be sure to press SELECT after each change to SAVE the new Data.
Using the Remote Control joy stick, scroll down to next page (see Figure 2) until LCD ADJUST is highlighted.
Figure 2
Move the joy stick to the right to cursor right once. The next page will appear with the word GHOST highlighted.
Cursor right again, and a white screen will appear with a BLACK SQUARE in the center, as in Figure 3.You will see LCD ADJUST, followed by “SHP” and a number (value).
Figure 3
If the unit is out of adjustment, you will see a gray ghost on either side of the black square. Move the joystick to the right or to the left until the ghost disappears. The number values will change up or down.
If the ghost adjustment is off with a lower value, there will be a ghost to the left of the square.
If the ghost adjustment is off with a higher value, there will be a ghost to the right of the square.
Once you get the square to look good without ghosts, press "SELECT" to save any data values that have been changed.
Press the "EXIT" button three times to return to normal picture.
Turn off your set. ( wait for the light and the fan to shut down) push and hold the Input button on the panel, power it on with the power button on the tv, as soon as you see the service menu appear, let go of the input button. Scroll down to : LCD adjust, toggle blue button to the right, another screen will appear. Adjust the squares on the screen until the ghosts are gone. hit Exit twice::Ghosts are Busted!
