Hi fixya, with regards to a Sony VPL-PX11 projector - what could be the cause of red blotches - they are more apparent during lighter picture scenes ? The projector is due a bulb replacement soon but I am not convinced this is the root of the problem. Thanks, MO.

One of the light filters on the lcd panels has a burn mark on it. probably the green. it is due to dust in the optical engine. it needs cleaning and the light filter needs replacing. unfortunately, most projector companies don't sell or repair individual parts, and you may need to replace the whole optical engine (which is pretty pricey).

I have two Sony PX11 projectors, one with a bad (discolored prism). How can I pull the prism out to replace it?

it's not the prism. chancs are it's the light filter(s) on the lcd panels. the prism is just coated glass. the light filters determine the color. you need to take the top off, the main board off (unplugging the ribbon cables), and the lens off. the lcd panels anf the filters are attached to the prism. remove the filters, but do not remove the lcd panels!

VPL-HS60 Scene Dimming

Hi 3mad

This is quite a sticky one as this could either be the lamp or the Ballast ( lamp's powersupply )

And the bad thing is that the only way to be certain , would be to first replace the lamp and if this continues the Ballast as well.

I would suggest you to replace the lamp first , as this is never a waste , you could always keep it as a spare and 99% of the time it is the lamp will give this kind of problem.

Good luck and thanks for using Fixya !

Sony VPL-ES1 projector

Hi Max

Is there any power on the unit at all ?

i.e. Does the LED's on the unit indicate that it is in stanby ?

If it isn't then it could just be a fuse that has gone on your Powersupply.

Replaced lamp, reset LCD - still displaying replace lamp

You must normally use the remote control to reset the lamp time. If you do that through the menu options and reset lamp hours, it should be OK.
