SOURCE: Hi With the rechargeable lanterns

You connect the charger to the lamp and plug the charger into an AC outlet. Having the lamp on will increase charge time. The charger does not appear to accept feedback from the battery so it depends on you to disconnect it when charge is complete.

SOURCE: I have a Vector VEC1378

I have the same and bought a $20 6v lead acid replacement from the Batteries Store. There are 4 small screws hidden under the foam rubber ring pad on the bottom. Very easy to open and swap out the battery. That said if you want to sell me your old lantern as is, I would enjoy having a second one for camping. Thanks and good luck. I can be reached at rudock1 at yahoo dot com. -Billy

SOURCE: I have a b&q rechargeable 1m candle power

The comments about NiCd and NiMh batteries are misleading. However, they are also irrelevant as this lantern is powered by an RT640 6V 4AH sealed lead-acid battery. It will be permanently damaged if allowed to run down completely.

This battery should be charged using a constant voltage charger. Details on the one I've inspected specify 7.3 to 7.4 volts for normal charging, and 6.85 to 6.95 volts when on standby (at 25 degrees C). The battery will be fully charged when its terminal voltage no longer rises. I don't know whether the charger supplied with this lantern meets these specifications as I don't have one.

Swissgear rechargable lantern won't light up, even though the green led light indicates it is fully charged

There are several different models of the Swiss Gear rechargeable lantern. On most though, you can remove the top portion of the lantern and check the lighting element inside. In most cases the elements can be removed and replaced. I have a dual filament lantern and from experience I know that every so often you may have to go buy a replacement light piece. If the lantern has been bumped or even just strapped to the outside of the pack while walking, it's possible for those elements to become loose and need repositioning or replacement so do check that. I'm sure that it should be unlikely your charger is malfunctioning unless you left it plugged in for some very extended period of time, in which case I would say the light would be more likely to burn out. But definitely try that and if that doesn't work the battery pack on the lantern itself may have an issue in which case you can always get a replacement.

I have a b&q rechargeable 1m candle power lantern, how long do I leave it on charge from being flat as the charger unit does not have a led incorporated in it.

Probably between 3 to 5 hours.
Check battery regularly. It should be warm while charging. When it begins to get hot it is charged. If you charge the battery for longer, there is the increased danger of fire or leakage from the battery.
Note how long the battery has been charged for and during for future charges, reduce the charging time.
NiCad batteries should be run flat before being recharged rather than being topped up in order to get maximum life out of the batteries. This is less critical with NiMh batteries.
